Back in march, i took my laptop to geeksquad to fix a virus problem. Before that, paint shop pro 9.1 worked just fine and dandy. now, after having gotten it back (again, back in march), paint shop will not load. I see it running in the processes window, but nothing ever appears on screen, and I think geek squad is to blame. It is now July, and nothing's changed.

My question is, is it too late to sue them? Or, can I even bring up a lawsuit in the first place?

lol, are you serious? a law suit? because paint shop wont load?

anyway, its a bit late after nearly 5 months. what you should have done is just stopped by , they might have refunded the price of paint shop for you. or they might have just blamed it on the virus.

I'm not familiar with the authors you mentioned. But by a little googling of what they are about, possibly give Eric Flint's 1632 a try.

My question:

I remember some time ago, I saw on tv that a farmer or something allegedly caught a space alien looking through his window on videotape, and that some experts said that it would take Hollywood $50,000 to create that effect, and that the video was released only to a documentary. is there any more information on it? and perhaps a video on the internet?

Anyways, in a moment of weekness I clicked on a link that was provided (I know, I'm stoopid etc) and it directed me to a web page, saying I was trying to access illicit images of underage children. I had no way of knowing this would happen. The site told me my IP is getting recorded and I shut the site down on panic before I read anymore. This happened Saturday evening.

Long story short, am I going to jail?

i doubt if you only ever visited a site like that once, for a very brief time, the feds are going to care. it probably wasnt real anyway.

there's basically two possible scenarios and neither involves you going to jail, so relax

• the guy who posted the link thought himself very funny and posted a link of a site that does nothing put display said warning
• the site you called really did contain illicid images and the message was legimated it seems that england has a similar silly system like germany in place to try to block users from accessing childporn. In that case you're most certainly in the clear too, since no halfway legimate law system would sentence someone for clicking/calling a link (any possible link). They just post that part to scare people from trying again, methinks

AFAIK, every single website you visit logs your IP and location, so is it pointless being scared over this?

It's good, but in general they don't bother, since if you're just looking at porn (on the condition you don't distribute it) then you're not actually doing any harm. When people have been known to be making the stuff, you wouldn't believe the sort of operation that goes on (literally, I've seen armed squadrons, dawn raids and armed standoffs over that)

There are lots of indie websites with tutorials for photoshop and Gimp I believe. Maybe go there.

No, in the UK you have to have mens rea (i.e a guilty mind; intent) when committing a crime, and the anti-child porn laws have a specifi exception for people who accidentally open that kind of stuff.

Since your logging will show you visited it once, for a very brief amount of time, IIRc, you've just hit the age of consent, and since you haven't made any attempt to save, log, or edit the images, you'll have no problems legally.

Well shoot, this has been bothering me and I know that someone's knowledge or wisdom around here can get me out of it, so I might as well ask. While this isn't related to the above topic it's still a nice segue since I am very sure it still relates to that un-nameable site. The question is, where does that silly smily face come from and what is it called - I can't even find pics because all I know to search is for smily-faces. Basically, it's the one that's adapted in all sorts of avatars and random references - it has that gaping triangular pink mouth with a tongue, and then the eyes are rolled straight upward and to the right in a ridiculous manner. So anyone who knows where this actually came from - I'd be grateful for your input.
