So knowing is believing in this case? When I say "true atheist" I mean someone who knows god doesn't exist, rather than thinks it unlikely but unprovable.
But what kind of proof will you accept? Do you think infinite can be proven the way of your finite mind? Even if God stands before you next moment It is gone the experience will be subject to doubt. One has to enlarge ones own capacity first...Like all scientific questions, I can't prove any god hypothesis wrong but in failing to prove them right I am comfortable dismissing them as wrong.
What is not God?I think it all depends on what you think God is.
The ego? And just about anything you can name? Which is kind of the point about it being undefinable. What is not God?

Which I guess is roughly as useful as global skepticism is to me.
There is no such thing as a "true" atheist. That just defines a subset of all atheists though, those who "for sure know" that God doesn't exist, or at least believe so.
I do not fall in that group, yet I have to be considered an atheist, because my answer to this question: "Do you believe that God exists?"
Is "No"
Since you started the sentence with "So" it appears you drew that conclusion from his remark. Explain how.So proof, prove and proven appears to be subjective. Just as God.![]()
Do you believe the concept of gravity is subjective as well? Not the Theory, but the concept.
Ah, but doesn't flying require gravity? Otherwise it'd be just floating. Or you'd need a propulsion system. But maybe we shouldn't discuss integrated human propulsion systems.Indeed. I believe I can fly....touch the sky....
Well not the belief-flying. I suppose not. It defies it.Ah, but doesn't flying require gravity?
Ah yes, that's different.Well not the belief-flying. I suppose not. It defies it.
Ah yes, that's different.
One of the many reasons why I stopped going to my local atheist club meetings is because they spent so much time arguing over the definitions of atheism/agnosticism/whatever and trying to 'accurately' classify themselves/each other/everyone else. I never understood why people of this bent spent so much time or energy on it.
I correct people when I asked to identify my position. If I just say "Oh, I'm an atheist agnostic".
This leads to questions and usually people trying to tell me "who I really am and what I really believe"
Honestly, I believe you can do that through levitation. Mind is superior to matter so if you can release it from being subject to it you can succesfully defy any physical law.Doesn't "defying gravity" require gravity to defy?
Yeah, I don't really worry about what I officially label myself as all that much. Yet another way I'm unlike libertarians.I promise my comment was in no way directed at you. Like I said, it's more about real life groups since this is a forum for discussion. It also isn't an issue to clarify your position or your identity. What I'm more talking about is 15 people spending an hour and a half spinning their wheels over a word instead of doing anything else. Then they complain they can't attract more members.
And by spinning their wheels, I don't even mean necessarily that they're talking about what they identify themselves as. They can literally get hung up on the word.
I wasn't being sarcastic.Maybe you can point out to me the relation between thought and gravity?
