I wouldn't own a gun unless the situation got so bad I was mugged for my teabags. You have to draw the line somewhere.
What I do possess and wear during the hours of darkness is body armour. Too many shootings in my locale for it to be otherwise.
Aside from that, have a couple of concealed items that aren't firearms, are street legal, and have come in handy on occasion.

Personally, I reckon there is something wrong with a country whos citizens feel the need to carry a gun wherever they go.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm fascinated in those little machines designed for sending pellets through people at tremendous speed, tearing apart organs with shattered bone etc.
Looks like the XM-29 OICW already been done (Six 20mm rounds...oh the carnage *drool* ). So here's a lovely handgun and a delightful SMG.
Firstly the FN Five seveN, not only can it penetrate a CRISAT from 100m, but it can do it Twenty times with one clip (of 5.7x28mm).
And, secondly the HK MP-7 PDW which will also penetrate a CRISAT, but this one will do it from 200m and can hold Forty rounds (4.6x30mm)

since, I'm in the army I "own" a SIG 550 / Stgw 90
but othewise I don't feel the need to own a gun.

I don't think you'd need a gun bigger then a .22 or maybe a .32. Criminals will be scared of just by being shown your gun or being shot at. You don't any thing bigger then this, plus .22 ammo is really cheap so you can get better at shooting easier. A .22 still has the power to stop your average thief who is more concerned about getting out alive and making a profit then killing you so he'll probably run right when you start shooting.

Are you serious? Ok, I can cope with that people from US are honestly talking about firearms they own and find it normal, but you, living in the UK need a body armour?
