I didn't know if I should start a new thread or post it here, it's not exactly about spanking but since spanking IMHO is one of the tools of authoritan upbringing I thought it fit in here
Yesterday there was an article in my local newspaper about a study done by the swiss national fonds where the took a look at youths and how the were raised....
the findings were that both kids who have been raised in a authoritan way and kids who have been raised in a anti-authoritan way don't perform too well and have more problems integrating into society.
I don't know what they defined as authoritan upbringing, but the definition can't be too strict, since they claim that today about 40% of swiss kids are raised in a authoritan way.
the best results seemed to yield parents who raised their kids in a balanced way, setting some boundaries but not too many, focussing on empathy, lending much support and less punishment and presssure (though not none at all) and building up a strong emotional bond with their kids...
link this isn't the article I read, but it's about the same study, and the only one I could find in english...
I have to say this doesn't exactly surprise me, since it was more or less the view I already held
thoughts?
