That seems about right, thank you

My guess: "then add more flour, do not make bread too hard
more yo kneed (?) your bread the better it is"

EDIT: x-post.

Thanks anyways :-)

On some of the index cards, there are these funny brown streaks. They're about the width of a scotch tape but I don't know how a scotch tape could do that.

Spoiler :

Any clue what they are? I'm just curious, really.

I thought we already did that

This needs to go from the activist mode to full protection mode. Borachio's posts are disappearing so quickly I'm convinced they are an endangered species. We have to do what we can to preserve this fountain of diversity on our forums.

Or, you know, you could get enough people to complain about it to the mods and get the mods to force Borachio to stop the incessant <nvm>'s. ;)

They look very much like tape to me. Old tape gets brittle and disintegrates or flakes off, most likely what is left is the old adhesive that is no longer sticky and has changed colors with age.

Why do you <nvm> so often?

Honestly I try not to. But, you see, I type what I think is an appropriate/witty something.

Then I'll edit it a bit. And go "nah" that's no good.

Or maybe I'll encounter an unfamiliar looking post and think "What numbskull wrote that!", realize it was me and delete it.

What else can I do?

Yeah. Get me perma-banned. Please. I want my life back.

'Twouldn't work too well. I'd probably just join another site. And bug the hell out of them.

You could always <nvm>!

 I didn't mean it that way! :)

I just think what you say, or want to say but wound up replacing with nvm, has a whole lot of potential other than to wind up irritating folks, such as hearty chuckles or good debate good enough to win someone over to your side ( :mischief: rare, but it does happen :mischief: ), or helping someone in need. Stuff like that. :)

Ah, but you see, you don't know what I <nvm>'d.

I'd say you can tell it's low grade stuff by looking at the kind of drivel I don't delete.

I don't say it's all drivel, mind you. Some of it might be reasonably OK. It's not possible for me, or anyone, to be consistently bad all the time. Just by random typing some of it must turn out alright.

I'm sorry for seeming stupid, but what's the difference between (head of) state and (head of) government? They've always seemed to be the same thing to me.

The POTUS is both head of state and government of the United States.

The head of state of the UK is the Queen. The head of government is the Prime Minister.

The actual responsibilities differ from country to country but generally, the head of state usually has only representative duties and only very limited influence on actual legislation, while the head of government is responsible for the day-to-day business of the government.

David Cameron vs. the Queen

In Norway prime minister is actually called state minister. He leads the government, which is the king's council, and the king has to sign everything they make.

The POTUS is both head of state and government of the United States.

POTUS?

Representative duties?

You (plural) can also try to explain the difference between state and government, if you feel like it.

The state is the whole caboodle. While the government is what attempts to govern/manage the state.

State is synonymous with nation state, I believe.

According to google translator, it's latin for "drink" (or "drinking" and so forth").
Hence the word potable for something drinkable and presumably also potion.

State is synonymous with nation state, I believe.
No. States are not required to be coterminous with a single coherent national identity. For instance, the Russian Federation is unarguably a state, but it is arguably not a nation-state. The Habsburg empire was unquestionably a state, but it was explicitly not a nation-state. And so on, and so forth.

A Nation State is simply a State that legitimizes itself by claiming to represent a Nation. The term Nation is properly a synonym with Ethic Group, but it more often uses as a shortened form of Nation State.

The term government can refer to the act of governing or steering society in some direction. More often it refers to the institution which does the governing. In British English it typically refers to the particular executive in charge of the state at a given time. In the US that is instead termed the Administration, and the term Government refers to larger system of executives, legislators, judges, laws, etc, by which the state is governed.
