It looks we are going to go through a heatwave for the next week or so. 
Starting tomorrow, we are gong to be above 35 and on Thursday it will be above 38 for the duration of the Ashes, which mean the English get some energy sapping weather just when the need it most.
Now I am sure some of you are going to say we have similar temperatures in Fahrenheit, but I am talking about Celsius.

That would be a civilized temperature in Farenheit, but in Celsius it's just horrible! 
It's -20C with the wind chill right now. That's not so bad. The Weather Network says -11C tomorrow, so I can go back to the fall coat and sweater if I go anywhere.

I am used to those temperatures, so they are fine by me, but me trying to live in those temperatures I would not survive long in that cold.
What cold? 
Last week it was down to -46C. That was damn cold. Thank goodness I have cats who like to snuggle in bed, since one cat is the equivalent of a warm blanket. I went downtown and did errands in -34C (but only out of necessity; I nearly froze my nose and a few other things). As long as there isn't much wind, -20C isn't that bad, and I've gone outside for short amounts of time in shirtsleeves in -10C (admittedly with no wind).

You Canadians are made out of tough stock. I thought I was all high and mighty walking to class in the single digits the other day. (~ -15 C for comparison)

Anything below 0C is cold. 
WE complain of cold when it gets to single digits. Even when the maximum is only just in the low teens.

I've been surprised by how un-cold it has been here this month. Yesterday I even briefly thought it was warm, when it topped out at 8C. Last week the wind was pretty cold, and I walked to the train station the week before with the temperature about -10C. It's weird not being able to feel your face, though it distracted from my lack of sufficient legwear. But all in all it hasn't been too bad, and most days in the next week are meant to get up to around 6 or 7.

Most of the time though, our winters are pleasant, with highs in the low 50s and lows near freezing. Clear days are not uncommon. However, it usually gets into the upper 70s or below 10 sometime during the winter, and we do have our share of overcast and rainy days as well. I like cold and snow, though, so I would prefer winters 5-10 degrees colder.

Been warming up nice here. Today was between 72F and 78F all day. I cleaned the pool and caught some rays, a very fine day. Lovely weather. Listen guys, had some friends over and drinks in the bar. Almost ran out of ice cubes! Can I count on you guys in case of emergency?

It's supposed to get up into the mid 70s on Sunday. I'm feeling ripped off by "winter". At least the high on Christmas day is only supposed to be in the upper-40s. My dream Christmas break forecast (from ~December 20-January 2) has average temperature departures 14 degrees below the local average, though, with 11 inches of snow, 1.5 inches of rain, and temperatures varying between 63 and -10 degrees. It's probably only possible in Kansas, U.S.A.

Where I am it's only supposed to get down around 10 F (-12 C), but that will either be the coldest in 5 years or the coldest in 14 (it got down to 11 in 2009). However, the wind chill may get down to -10 F. Unfortunately, my area did not see any snow from the system, and the cold won't last long. In our area it may hit the 40s on Wednesday. The interesting thing about today's weather, though, is that it started out around 55 this morning, fell to 45 by noon, 37 by late afternoon, and is now down to 23.
I will say, the North America really is prone to amazing cold snaps, Malta, at the same latitude as me, only sees snow about every 40 years and only the airfield has seen subfreezing temperatures, whereas we get freezes 50 to 70 times per winter and have recorded temperatures as low as -9 F (-23 C). We also get snow 9 out of every 10 winters.

Yeah, looks pretty nasty over there. My boss has just flow off to Toronto this morning for a business trip, Can't say I envy him
Meanwhile, the UK is getting more storms and more floods (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-25633693). Was down in Cornwall over the Xmas holidays and, although I managed to miss the worst of it (arrived just after the first really big storms and left just before the second), it was still pretty impressive looking out over Newquay bay as the massive waves came crashing in.

The weatherman here just said it was 6F in Atlanta. That must be a first.
Same in DC. Right now it's 10F.

A major snowstorm hit the South yesterday. It only gave Atlanta two inches of snow, but it came more quickly than expected. This caused a major traffic jam as people were trying to head home before the storm hit. The coast of North and South Carolina also got an ice storm, and some parts of the North Carolina coastal plain got 6 inches.
My area only got about 1.5 inches, so while the storm may have been once in a decade for some, for my area it was only about a once every 2 year storm. However, it was a powdery snow that fell at 20 degrees, which is very rare for my area, and it stuck to the roads, which is also rare.
