The Weather/Climate Thread

Yes, indeed. In 1976 the roads began to melt and the lorries ploughed tracks into it.

The guys on the news were say that it was 'the new norm" that it was going to get worse, that this was all caused by AGW. What they were n o t saying is that it was a once in a century event. They got that sooooo wrong. Eight years and nothing, talk about miscall!

I wouldn't say nothing, there's been a fare share of intense storms, ones that didn't hit the US (such as Dean and Felix), or ones that did as powerful Category 2's (Ike, Sandy), or even Irene hitting the US in places storms don't usually go (also Sandy).

It's been eventful, just not nearly as eventful as 2005 ;)

Anyone ever walk to work and it's so hot outside that the asphalt melts and sticks to your shoes?

Not in a few years. When I was down in SC for a week back in 2007 yes. Every day.

The weather this year from June onward sucked. The winter that refused to leave was awesome. Huge snowstorm in May here. I eagerly anticipated a good July for humidity, hoping for a repeat of a few years ago, with the dew points in the 80's (Fahrenheit).

Nope. :(

August started out nice and cool and below average, including one or two record low highs (meaning, the coldest high temp of the day ever recorded for that day). Then the *current* heat wave started simultaneously with the MN State Fair last week of August, and hasn't let up since. And like Joe, no good storms here either.

Go away already, Summer. I'm tired of looking over my shoulder every 10 seconds for a killer bee or spider that might sneak up on me.

And hearing about colder weather elsewhere, I keep secretly hoping that a new Ice Age is about to begin...

It's been in the low 60s the past few days and overcast with periodic rain showers, which I like considering that these are the first sub-70 highs since mid May, and September was about 1.5 in. dryer than usual.

We just got a good amount of rain 2-3 days ago, which is pretty rare for SoCal. Good thing I like rain, though, reminds me of when I used to live on the east coast.

On the downside, it's pretty cool now after the rain left, especially at night, around the 50s or so.

It's getting to that time of year when it wouldn't surprise me to see the first skiff of snow. We usually get at least one during the month of October. It's currently -1C here, and it's been raining.

Mornings are about 40 degrees here in Iowa, though the day still warms up a lot, we tend to hit 80 by mid-afternoon.

Interesting weather wise, its still oh so very dull. Hopefully winter will actually be full of snow/storms, to make up for this boredom.

There was a bit of snow here last night (I didn't really see it :(). Was meant to snow some more this morning, but it's just raining a little at the moment. I've heard it's meant to be the coldest Munich winter in 50 years, which should be fun for me. I find it strange, though, that it's hovering around 0-2C now, but in a week or so it's meant to be back up to 19 for a few days.

Cold here in this slice of the tropics. Rain and wind every day, oh bring me back to the days where the sun burned off the cloud and shone on through!

I'm a little jealous that some of you guys are actually at a point where snow is not out of the question. Where I live, snowfall amounts in the past 10 years have varied between a trace and 15 inches and occured almost exclusively in January and February. However, a few years ago we got a snow flurry in November, and this spring it sleeted in April (though it was mixed with rain, only lasted about 30 minutes, and four days later the high was 78).

A few interesting meteorological records:
Record high, Honolulu, HI: 95 F
Record high, Fairbanks, AK: 99 F

Record low, Tallahassee, FL: -2 F
Record low, Tromso, Norway: -1 F

By the way, my area had its first sub-freezing low of fall less than a week after its first sub-50 low, an unusual occurrence. Now it's in the 60s and rainy.

We're supposed to get a snowstorm throughout Central Alberta this weekend.

And in other sky-related news, there's a solar eclipse coming on Sunday morning... not visible from this half of the country. :(

We had a warm winter in Melbourne, but the last month is been cooler than normal. It's like winter doesn't want to let go its grip, with maybe 1 day in 5 getting over 20. By this time of year it should be 1 day in 5 under 20.
