I could move the settler on the PH, hit enter, move warrior SE and repost. If we decided to settle on the PH we lose as much as we'd lose anyway, if we decide to head back we just lose one turn.

And, a compromise is born... unless... if you move and 1+ Seafood Resources are discovered, the fight might continue, but some people who want to settle on the PH will say "well, we have already spent 1 turn anyway..."

If we find seafood we settle on initial spot to leave space for second city. I still say SIP though as this hill is so suspiciously unforested, in contrast to all surrounding non-resource tiles... I don't want to settle on copper.

There is fish we could settle W of the warrior to be riverside and coastal for the fish but only if we settle the initial spot. Also note the ice on the edge of visibility.

yep, SOPH nullifies the tuna...not really a great city but food is food, and it gives us some options with cap overlap. If we're lucky there's some more fish or shellfish in the fog.

I'd still settle on the PH. If the coastline curves around to the south we can still get the fish, and if it doesn't, we lose a only-slightly-better-than-crappy city site to the south.

With all the overlap plus plenty of sea tiles, that fish city is good for nothing really. It can help working a few cottages initially, but that's about it. A 5F 2C tile in an otherwise crappy city doesn't justify slowing down our initial expansion by several turns imo.

I don't believe the coast goes further south, due to the presence of ice. City with fish is nothing bad or average. Fish is the best food tile in the game. I don't think getting +1H in the capital makes up for losing that site. Depending on how much land we can seal off from the AI we might squeeze our cities pretty tightly and losing such a site will hurt.

I agree adamantly with this and considering this is Deity, decent settle spots are usually at a premium.

Well I guess you all know "I have some good and some bad news". I shall start with the good ones

• We're not isolated.

Now the bad ones:

• We're most likely semi-isolated. With izzy. I take full responsibility for that as I seem to have fallen under the Semi-Isolation-Curse and still generated the save (my last 3 solo-games were in semi-isolation). But still, we're not isolated
• Our initial warrior died pretty quickly.
  
  
  
  
  

Now some other stuff:

• Moving the warrior SE on T1 as bbp requested would've shown empty ocean as the fish is just out of sight.
• Due to the massive barb presence (I saw at least 3 archers and 3 warriors, no bears though ) I decided to improve sheep > horses > road to cap. Corn is improved as well by now and worker is on forest ready to start chopping as...
• ... teched AH > mining > BW which we just learned.
• After building 1 warrior I thought the risk of losing them just again was pretty high I slotted in the settler for 3 turns (IIRC) until the horses were connected. I'd say grow until 4 and finish the settler then together with the chop.
• There is this one spot to block izzy off mostly, we must make sure we get there first. Defending it against barbs shouldn't be a problem due to the proximity to istanbul and spain. And it's autoconnected to istanbul thanks to the river.

The land is much better than the last game too! I'm assuming that we're farming Istanbul? If so, do we want to plant any cottages on the FP to the east, assuming we can grab that city?

The eastern red dot site is a bit low on food, it might be a good idea to farm at least one FP for now. We are philosophical - wouldn't it be better to go for mostly food and specialists for the early to mid game?

@Thrar: I agree though with the semi isolation thing (I checked the save, north west water tiles aren't fresh water so that's most probably the west coast ), we might want to fit in some cottages to compensate for the lack of trades. In any case, don't worry, there isn't any cottage spammer in the roster as far as I know

I can't make out plains from grassland on mysty's images It looks like the eastern dot has lots of hills, in which case farms make more sense. There aren't lots of commerce tiles around other than the river, so I think we'll have to plant some cottages somewhere to pay the bills.
