I knew someone who was terrified of moths and butterflies. That's gotta be rough. I hate spiders enough and they don't even have wings. It's bad enough that ninja crap they do where they descend 4 inches in front of your face on a wire from the ceiling.
People use pseudonyms for various reasons. One year I was at a science fiction convention in Calgary and happened to pick up a novel about the Trojan War. The bookseller told me who really wrote it, and that if I wanted it autographed, the author was standing across the room at another table. Since I had already read some SF by this author and knew he wrote good stories, I bought the book and asked him to sign it. When he looked surprised that I knew he'd written it, I mentioned what the bookseller said.
So he explained that the reason for the pseudonym was because he already had a couple of books out around the same time as this one and his agent advised him not to appear to have too many new books out at once - so he wouldn't be in competition with himself.
Pseudonym use is nice. Particularly if you invent your own nemesis and have him/her write polemics against you. Not that i ever did that. But there is still time
TIL that the ‘first Australian ship’ really was manned by convicts, and that they did get to Japan -it is interesting to see, for once, the view of Japanese people on the gai-jin rather than the other way around.
