Tip the pizza delivery driver!

More than that. A driver who only make 10% off of each delivery isn't really doing all that well, unless he's very busy. Drivers have to average a few bucks more than a min. wage, because of the hazards on the job, and the wear/tear on their cars, or else people won't drive.
So you'll have to more than double the base rate of all pizza drivers, and give them that cushion built into the pizza cost.

Given the crap level of customer service you get in European restaurants (at least the ones I visited in England, Belgium, Holland, and France), I'm surprised more Euros don't see the wisdom in tipping. Oh well, enjoy your unsatisfactory service.
You guys can crow all you want blah blah blah, but it works. Its a good system. I like that if I tip more then my pizza gets here quicker and hotter, etc....

please let's not turn this into yet another US vs. Europe thread, ok? Both systems have their advantages and disadvantages.
Our positions aren't that far from each other. I don't mind tipping at all, personally. It's just that to me tips were intended to honour good service, and not part of the price of a service. To me the average service is already paid for (or should be). Everything beyond that gets tips from me, simple as that.
Of course, if in the US I'll tip the usual 10-15% (unless the service is bad in which case they won't get a penny), but that doesn't mean that I like the system
I'm not anti-Europe at all. I'm saying this, objectively, as someone's who's been to parts of both places... the system (which happens to be in European places I've visited) sucks from the standpoint of the customer's satisfaction.

I think thats a false assumption. I never delivered a pizza quicker because I thought doing so would earn me a better tip.
It also begs the question, what comes first, the service or the tiip? Well, the service obviously. In the European situation, why should europeans tip for bad service? What I am saying is that I dont think european bad service is a result of them not tipping; nor do I think that service would improve if they did tip. Its more of a cultural thing in my opinion.

I loved my trip to Europe, so I'm never one to bash.And, yeah, I'm also not saying US service is universally brilliant. Hardly!

And, fwiw, I was trying to "eat off the beaten path", ie avoiding tourist trap places that might not be an accurate reflection....
That said, I LOVED MY TRIP AND I LOVED EUROPE.
I've also formed my opinion from discussions I have w/ my European-born friends. Its just one of the variety of topics that comes up from time to time. They seem to agree w/ me that the tipping culture we have for food service generally results in a much better experience and value for the customer.

I went to Poland 2 and a half years ago - ate at a lot of various pubs/restaurants, and the service was always comparable to what I'd expect in Ontario.
It might just vary from place to place - not just from continent to continent.

Yeah, where I worked it was the kitchen guys who got to prepare dough, mops floors, do dishes, take out trash, etc. The delivery guys only answered the phone (sometimes) and took out their pizzas, and for a higher base wage to boot.

I tip but I really dont feel to do it when it takes an hour to get it...I dont care if its a big rush or the cooks burned it, you wont have tip...I mean do you feel mad when you're not tipped and the guy wait an hour and a half ? (ok i never ordered pizza but other food like indian,etc)

I always tip my drivers $20-$40, depending on car driving (if truck 40, if small car 20)... regardless of how much the pizza(s) costs.
If it is late, the manager always calls me to inform me that the pizza will be late becuase (problem stated here). So I know it is not the drivers fault. Also I live in a town that is bad with street and road identifying. There are trees blocking street numbers/names and our city doesn't even have mailboxes on the street. But since I order so many pizzas from Pizza Hut all the drivers know where I live anyways. It is the big house on the top of the hill, you cant miss it. It is the only one there, no other house dots the hill.

I always alert the Judge early on that my client is a big tipper if the service is satisfactory.
