"Wash your body with soap and water."

"I never thought I would get a semi reading a New York Department of Health press release."

Today I learned that the ancient Greeks may have built their temples with accessibility in mind (ramps). Though it might've also been a fad.

so there's this new "reality game show" on NBC which is apparently about fat men doing stupid things in a waterpark.

TIL about the 26 second pulse

Seismometer noise includes signals from South Atlantic storms
Washington University doctoral candidate Garrett Euler, using a mathematical technique called cross correlation, analyzed four arrays of broadband seismometers in Cameroon, South Africa, Ethiopia and Tanzania and found that seismic noise oscillating at 28 and 26 second periods originates in the Bight of Bonny and varies with the intensity of storm activity in the Southern Atlantic Ocean. During the largest storms, seismic waves from the Bight of Bonny are recorded by broadband seismometers all around the world.
Although the exact mechanism causing seismic noise near Africa is unknown, Euler speculates that long-period ocean waves from storms in the Southern Atlantic Ocean reflect off the coast of Africa and focus near the island of Bioko. The interaction of the waves with the shallow seafloor changes the ocean wave energy into seismic waves that travel through solid earth. The noise source was first discovered by Jack Oliver, PhD, of Columbia University in 1962, but Euler’s work is the first to accurately locate the source.

Nice !

Would whales hear it too and know this ?

depends on the whales , though . Like save the whales in Trek , which movie was that , 4 ? And whales will let you live ! Considering

TIL about a vaccin against Lyme... expected patience needed: 5 years

A French pharmaceutical company is working on a vaccine against Lyme disease. The drug can be available within five years. The disease is spread by tick bites and is diagnosed in tens of thousands of people in Europe and the US every year. Those who are not treated promptly can end up with health problems for the rest of their life, including pain in joints and nerves.

The vaccine was developed by the French company Valneva. When a vaccinated person is bitten by a tick, the vaccine stops the Lyme-causing bacteria in the tick from entering the human bloodstream. The vaccine does this by attacking a specific protein that the bacteria carry.

Today I've learned how to send an "E mail" !!!! ^^

Refrigerator blindness: selective loss of visual acuity in association with a common foraging behaviour

Three male offspring, aged 9–14 years, of one of the authors (M.B.) were observed to experience visual problems profound enough to imply functional blindness. The visual deficit was evident on almost every occasion when any one of the children of this physician went to the refrigerator and opened the door. The acute visual problem encountered was noted to be part of a consistent behaviour pattern, wherein a few seconds after the fridge door was opened a cry would be heard from the affected child of “Mum, where's the milk [or any other item being sought]? [...]
