No; I said something, and then immediately realized that my thinking process was flawed.
Post it! :p
i take back everything, i love the tavern and having the chamber besides it is nice.
What's happened? Is it just the immense joy of being in the FA Cup final? Germany has halved the price of a schnitzel? Someone's made an intelligent post in the Colloseum? Do tell!

I just found out I can be in both forums at the same time.

Hell no. The tavern is a spam infested cesspool and the mods do not care in the slightest. Despite the description saying, "lightly moderated", I'm convinced that it is actually zip. Furthermore, multiple polls have demonstrated the split's lack of popularity, but this appears to go unnoticed.

Well then, the Tavern needs to bloody change because it's hell in there. I'm a refugee coming here.

I was in favor of the Tavern because I was happy to finally have the opportunity to post in a faster looser environment. I still think it would work; things are just starting to get problematic because 3 or 4 specific individuals have now discovered that they can be dickwads and hijack any and all threads with whatever inane drivel they want with literally no consequences. This problem is exacerbated by the fact that they only two rules in the entire damn subforum prevent posters who actually give a crap from dealing with the problem themselves.

Either the mods need to deal with the problem personally (as in ban the individuals; c'mon, we all know who they are), or remove the Tavern restrictions so we can deal with it personally, because as it is now the Tavern is dead in the water.

Firstly, we're looking into this and have taken steps (and will follow through on those steps) to hopefully rectify the issue.

However, we don't want to be looking into things or taking too many steps in the Tavern. I mean, the problem you highlight is exactly why we've always been reluctant to have lower moderation. To a large extent, if you find yourself frustrated trying to have a proper discussion in the Tavern, this is because that's what the Chamber is designed for.

The Tavern is now so bad, with so many openly aggrevating trolls and mind-raping nonsense posts, I only go in there outside of the Serial Threads (and sometimes not even those) if I'm already in a nasty mood. Not that I don't like having it there even in that state; it diverts the filth and the flames away from the Chamber, which do have quality threads that I still visit occasionally. So far I haven't seen any excess of Moderator Brutality in the Chamber as feared by some people, but I haven't been really active so I might have missed something.

And, also, what Rugby said.

Well I was gonna agree with you Tailless . I guess a little orgy of reciprocal back scratching never hurt anyone .

I mean , I certainly make no claims to being the most cerebral guy around these parts . I should probably be hanging out in the tavern , not here with the big boys . But instead , I spend more time here than frankly I want to , simply to escape the turgid state of affairs in that den of inequity .

Can you give any examples of that? By PM if necessary. I haven't been around much the past week or so, but from the little I've been posting I haven't noticed any really bad stuff.

Oh god no . I'm a total computer dullard . The whole thought of copying , pasting , linking , PMing etc fills me with dread . I still can't even do pics on here . And it all has to be finger typed with an i pad as I don't own a PC .

Ok . But look at this way . If I'm down at the pub / tavern I may wish to engage in slightly more relaxed conversation , yes .

But even at the pub , no one wants to drink with loud mouthed wankers.

Yep, understood (though you might expect the publican to turf out the drunken brawlers, rather than the mere loud mouthed wankers). So hopefully the steps we've taken will work to an extent. It's difficult for us to reconcile that with our desire for lower moderation (or our promise for lower moderation), though.

Again, not much needs to be done. Other than 2 or 3 problem posters, the Tavern, at least to me, is fine. Ban those posters from the tavern and everything would be fine.

The problem with the Tavern is topic drift where every thread ends up being about abortion and/or Ron Paul. I can't complain too much, because responding to the hijackers contributes to the drift. It is up to the Tavern community itself to drag things back on topic and kindly (or not so kindly) direct the hijackers to the opportunity to open their own thread.

See, I'd be fine with this too, it'd just be a hell of a lot easier if the rules allowed us to be a bit more abrasive.

Which is the solution I've been arguing for for 4 years. Not happening. :p
