U.S. House of Representatives Admonishes Joe Wilson

And yet the Republicans wasted years of Congress's time because Clinton played with an intern. And we wasted a few weeks recently because certain people lied through their teeth about death panels. Personally I don't think slapping down this jerk was worth a day's time. Even though he did deserve to be slapped down. But don't pretend that there's any high moral ground being staked out here.
My point is just this basically.
When congress waste time on useless things, Republican or Democrat, it should be called out I think.

You didn't have to say it. Those are examples of the types of things that do actually get significant chunks of time in congress. And that's not unusual. Congress is not some kind of magical ceremony, its a job done by elevated bureaucrats who do as much if not more hidden politics between themselves as anything the poor quality modern media covers. Imagine the pointless bickering of two infamous posters here, with different colored ties, yelling across an aisle about everything. This is a damn near great achievement to accomplish the censure so quickly.

White Southern KKK man[s/] Republican gone wild :mischief:
okay, this guy was an ass, lets move on

And yet the Republicans wasted years of Congress's time because Clinton played with an intern.

Actually, they did that because he lied about it. At least get it right.

So an apology wasnt enough for a single moments weakness?

Ah, Teddy...you had it sooo easy.

What Joe Wilson did was a crass political move... but thats it. Doesn't congress have more important business?

So he lied when he called Obama a liar?

I've always admired the British Parlimantery etiquette and appreciated the grilling public servants receive. I think it provides another outlet for transparency. I remember watching the British Parliment BBQ Blair on the run-up to Iraq and comparing that in my own mind with our very formal State of the Union addresses (the only regularly held Presidential public interaction with Congress). Yes...there are a few things the Brits do better.

Imagine Bush or Palin trying to be a Prime Minister at PMs question time ;)
For some strange reason your political leaders get a very easy ride.
Not too late we could have HM send a Governor over as long as she does not have to bother about states like Kansas, she does not fancy them as part of her realm :D

Lame. Accomplishes nothing. Wilson even gets to grandstand about how they're wasting everyone's time.

Yes but he is right they are all god damn idiots, whats the matter with them wasting time over that. Yeah, and these people are supposed to run healthcare for the entire country, they could not even run a muffler shop.

the wasted time argument is bogus - congress doesn't get past considering more than a serious bill a week in the best of times because of the senate rules and the House has plenty of time at hand to pass dozens of declarations on renaming post offices and the like per week - so none of this wasted any time they didn't have. In the US the senate wastes the time not the house :mischief:
And with the Senate currently being busy not doing anything on Health Reform and instead busying itself with reneging on the mutual visa and fee free travel with the EU the house has plenty of time :mischief:

The President said that the time for games is over. He gracefully accepted my apology and the issue is over,” said Rep. Joe Wilson
I agree with the honourable Mr Wilson. This is how adults deal with these situations.

Wow, conservatives suddenly care about healthcare?

Yes but he is right they are all god damn idiots, whats the matter with them wasting time over that. Yeah, and these people are supposed to run healthcare for the entire country, they could not even run a muffler shop.

Then why have government, if it's so incompetent all the time?

ANARCHO-CAPITALISM ROCKS

And yet the Republicans wasted years of Congress's time because Clinton played with an intern committed a felony by lying under oath to a grand jury, something called perjury and punishable for up to five years in prison at the federal level.

Fixed that for you.

Are Congressmen actually bureaucrats? This is a serious question, I also thought of the term describing career public servants with political electees and political appointees each being a different animal all together.

I hand't realised this

From Mark Mardell's blog on BBC

A stream of articles has revealed that he was one of a handful of politicians who voted to keep the confederate flag flying over the South Carolina state house and was a long time ago a junior aide to Strom Thurmond, a former presidential candidate and one-time staunch segregationist.

The funny thing about this is that all the attention is on Wilson's apology, but not on the fact that Wilson was simply wrong when he claimed Obama lied.

Did Wilson make any sort of statement admitting that what Obama said was true?

Sounds like Wilson's got form going way back. Supports Carter's view that it was racially motivated, doesn't it?
