Ugliest city in the world?

Anyway, soviet architecture in the core of the Soviet Union for example can actually be beautiful, unlike its counterparts in the Warsaw pact.

Do you mean Stalin Empire Style? Personally, |I'll take a Stalin Empire building over these gray blocks in the pictures, but, apparently, Serious Modern Architects disagree. I even like nicely done Stalin Empire, which firmply places me in the unworthy category in the eyes of Modern Architects.

Sorry, your post totally gave the impression that bucharest looks like that (and just didnt have the right pics so you used these). Edited my previous one.

Don't worry. :D

I live in one of these Commie-style blocks, and it's not nearly as bad.
I live in a commie-block too. :) The block itself looks all right, but I'm a bit scared because it was built before the Great 1977 earthquake and I'm not sure how it will react, if it will withstand another one (these earthquakes come with a periodicity of around 30 years, so it's about time a new one hit...).

I've never heard of the term Stalin Empire Style so far... :) What I meant was this:

But I'm seriously drifting off topic since I'm showing pictures of beautiful buildings in such a thread. :)

That's exactly the Stalin Empire Style. Khrushev in 1954 pretty much denounced it in favour of the more cheaper blocks.

Kabul for me, without a doubt.

Any city that is also a warzone.

I nominate Campos do Goytacazes. The city I hate the most. It's also plain disgusting to look at.

Washington DC. The city center is okay, but is is surrounded by slums. It's awful. It's really a disgrace that we can't even serve the people in our capital.

Are you kidding me? You've never been to DC, have you? None of it is "slums;" SE, aka Anacostia, can be pretty crappy in parts, but its not a slum. NE is alright, and NW, including Georgetown and Bethesda, are incredibly rich and really just wonderful places to go. Alexandria and Arlington are rather rich areas as well. And Montgomery County is the richest county in the nation, to boot.

My conclusion: having lived an hour from DC for 21 years and being intimiately familiar with the locales, I say you are dead wrong.

Those slums have a name, and it's "Anacostia". Also, "Maryland". :mischief:

:gripe:

Indeed. Socialist Realism kind of looks like slightly fancier Art Deco.

You already did, four years ago. ;)

Its a pity, really, because it was a rather pretty city before 1980. And the British blew up an ancient and famous covered market that was centuries old when the left in the 1880s.

Couldn't resist, dude. :dunno: More seriously, I'd probably say Omaha.

I could mention Norfolk if I really wanted to, but I won't, since I'm not a jerk.

No, wait, I am.

Norfolk/Portsmouth is probably the ugliest VA city outside of Dantown. ODU caps it off. VA Beach is cool, as is Williamsburg; I've never been to Suffolk or Chesapeake, so I can't comment.

I googled it... wait, you must be talking about some other town! :dubious:

Because if this is the ugliest city in the world, many places I know are actually from hell! :D

That's the city I was talking about, yes. Keep in mind that the pics you posted are the "postcards" of Campos, the whole city looks much worse. I didn't post any pictures precisely because I couldn't find any that do justice to the awfulness that is Campos.

But of course Campos is not the ugliest nor the worst place in the world, nor even the state of Rio de Janeiro. I hate it so much because it manages to be a hellhole even though it receives the largest share of oil royalties of any municipality in the country; we're talking hundreds of billions of dollars. That money is either plainly robbed by the Garothinho couple and their evangelical mafia or spent in completely useless stuff like Formula-1 style traffic lights and ridiculous and non-functional public buildings. Cities that receive far less oil royalties than Campos manage to become essentially first world cities, Campos remains a bunch of slums with one of the biggest budgets in the Union.

Hundested. *shudder*

Anyways, i just noticed Winner's signature, and would like to add that I think the Hitler thing is hilarious.
