@feline and Mise - this means that on the friday the 16th i'll have to get a lateish train up, one in the evening (I'll be finishing work at half 6, so i'll get the next avaialable train, i'll eat dinner on there. Girlfriends hosue is near to station so i can pick up stuff there). So it will probably be case of get the tube from Paddington to where you live, ditch stuff, then straight to Camden with us to drink at the World's End Pub then on to the Electric Ballroom;):D

Train tickets need to be ordered upfront in the UK ??
There's a substancial discount for paying three days in advance.

I have never managed to order a ticket online (sites suck) and the phone is much better. Can someone post the phone number?

National Rail Enquiries is 08457 48 49 50, iirc. Every phone book has it somewhere near the front, in the boring info section you never read. I've never had a problem with qjump.co.uk or thetrainline.com - and I use Safari while the sites are designed for IE. You can order on them for delivery, or for pick-up at the station (as long as it has one of those Fasticket machines.) Local travel agents are also quite helpful; as long as they've got a "National Rail tickets sold here" thingy, they should do what it says on the tin. Also, at a non-rush hour time (when you'd get lynched by the people in a great hurry to catch a train), you can often buy tickets for future use at railway stations.

Edit: ... post the phone number + for the benefit of others :)

I think it's thetrainline.com telephone operators who provide the best prices and service. Not sure though. The site sucks.

Yay Rik! Would you like to meet up earlier? Then we can get a headstart on

Waaaay back in post 258 I made a list of all the posters in this thread, not having noticed at that time (Thanks to Duke of Marlbrough for telling me) that if you are in the forum, or User CP, and click on the number in the penultimate column, Replies, it'll tell you who's posted and how many times each. Treat that as a probability factor for each person turning up....

Hope my link works, I'm still a bit shaky on the vb codes.

:)
