Unemployed? Don't bother applying.

My dad's (50s) still unemployed after nine months. :(

My dad's entire floor got laid off, probably the big reason my parents left for Venezuela.

A friend of my dad is actually considering selling his house and moving back to Poland after being unemployed for a year. Unfortunately, I doubt your dad will find a job soon unless he knows some people. (Of coarse, I can't know his situation.)

I don't know all the facts, and I'm sure there's more too this then meets the eye. Still, whatever company did this seems quite stupid...

They do have their rights to hire whoever they like however...

I have a Master's in History, years of experience in customer service jobs to pay for that degree and an absolutely spotless employment record. Still can't find a job. I'm reduced to temp work, which may be fun and interesting at times, but certainly isn't going to take care of my fiancee or unborn child. On the plus side, I've plenty of time to write my book, but that won't be published until next year at the earliest, if I'm lucky.

It's not just America with this ridiculous bias against the unemployed friends. Something needs to be done about it, pronto.

Let's do this.

@ TK:

Let's not! :scared:

As for the "killing people" comments... I'll be the first to comment on the irony of people supposedly advocating small government encouraging the unemployed to sign up in droves for the military, but to say that joining the army means you'll go straight to the front is just ridiculous. There are plenty of jobs in the Army that do not involve combat.

I'll leave it to our resident vets to give specific examples since they'd obviously know more about it.

I'll agree it's disgusting to automatically disqualify people simply for being unemployed though. At least give them the chance. If they suck, fire them.

Actually, if we combine this thread's premise with Tekee's sex workers thread's, we can say that if they suck, hire them!

Very nice. Very nice. I think you might be able to replace Leno.

Capitalism at its finest. (As long as you don't replace Craig Ferguson. Leno can go the way he forced Conan. Leno doesn't even make up his good stuff any more.)

I'm curious, how are the Scandanavian countries handling the global recession? They aren't quite as socialist as they used to be, but still more than the rest of Europe.

Oh good lord...

"Giving people a chance" is not an acceptable risk in this day and age.

In an era of high unemployment, I'm sure there's replacements if they screw up.

Failing that, hold onto the person until a replacement shows up.

Then can him in a cold, uninformed decision.

Still think giving people a chance is a better option than no chance at all. :p

They've begun raiding the European coastline in longboats, of course.

Yes, I think you can be a comedian alright. :p

Well... It worked the first time.

Sure did get people to work fast, didn't it?

I figured out the solution to America's job woes...

Invade Poland and France.

I wonder how much of this is brought on by people who don't really want a job giving crappy interviews so they can continue getting unemployment.

I don't know how exactly it is in Denmark, but Norway is doing great. Low unemployment, lots to do, everything is basically fine. :king:

Sweden on the other hand seems to have a bit higher unemployment. So much so, that those poor Eastern Europeans who come to our countries and "take our jobs"? In Norway they're mostly Swedish.
