Unit requests thread

The way I understand it, these are actually ports of Civ 4 units to Civ 5, so they already exist for Civ 4 ;)

If the units from Civ V work in Civ IV, I would love to see some uploaded so I can try them out. I do not have Civ V yet (and perhaps what I am hearing about the game play, I may never get it) but would like to see some new models for play.
 
I need help with a unit I made.
The model is a reskin of the hand canon from the Russian units made by Bakuel. No changes have been done to the model other than a new head and new clothes.

However, when I put it into the game it gets a strange metallic gloss all over even thou the model has no gloss map specified. :eek:

Can anyone help me figure it out?

That is exactly the problem. The gloss map says which part should show less gloss, with total black meaning no gloss. If there is no map, everything is set to maximum gloss (equals total white in the map). You have two possibilities to correct your unit:

First one, create an all-black dds file and use it as gloss map. This file doesn't need to be the size of the texture map, 16*16 will be sufficient.

Second one, remove the "NiTextureEffect" node from the "Musketman Body" node.

Does anyone now if there's a Turtorial how you can convert Unit Graphics from other games into Civ4 Unit graphics?
 
It is not a real request for a new unti graphic, but for unit animations. Is it possible ta add some animations to the attached units, to make the rider fire arrows in distant battle, while the elephant fights in melee? It has to be a bit like the ballista elephant, but with another weapon, used by the rider standing in the box. Great thanks in advance for your efforts.

I would really like to see a tutorial on how to add animations using Nifscope. For example, I would like to add a fireball being thrown to a model of a warrior but have no idea on how to do it -- perhaps it can't even be done in a Nifscope, but any ideas would be appreciated.

There is a rock thrower unit out there. I am using it in my module for RIFE. So you can take it and replace the rock effect with the fireball effect from FFH. It should be easy XML work. (in theory)

I would love to see that model! Sounds like a great edition to my mod and would love to see it in action.

Check out the Rise From Erebus forum. Once 1.31 comes out so will my module and it includes a whole race of scarecrow units (will eventually make a complete civ set with all units).
 
I have a thread there, but I don't know when my module will come out or if it will come out since it depends on them making some DLL changes for me.

But if I can't make the module by the end of the month or so I will release the units as a unit pack for base civ so that they are not wasted.

There is one for converting Units from Kohan II written by Deliverator, maybe this helps you already.

Adding an effect with NifSkope is possible, in fact I wouldn't know any other way. j_mie6 for example made a custom unit with a hand held rocket launcher. You can read about his learning process here (starting with post 96). If you want to know about adding other effects and simple animation, you could also read the post from the start.

Also, my Werdandi unit uses a custom firing effect. Maybe her example might help, too.

There you go. I added the longbowman animation to the unit, I hope that is the one desired.

In fact this wasn't very hard, I basically just added the range animations from the longbowman.kfm to the warelephant.kfm using esemjay's KFM Converter. The only other thing I changed was adding a dummy node to put the starting position of the flying arrow in the right place (before it started somewhere inside the elephants).

Oh, and don't forget to switch the bActAsRanged of the unit to 1 in the CIV4ArtDefines_Unit.xml file. ;)

Please, could someone make some more animal units. I am looking for some "real" sea creatures (salt water crocodile and orca) and some flightless birds (cassawary, emu, ostrich and moa). Currently I am using the plesiosaur for the first and penguin for the latter. Not very asthetic.
 
And again I have got a strange unit demand. I am looking for railroad engines I could use for armored trains. While I have some (Civil) models for steam engines, I am missing a electric or diesel engine for a modern train. I think I can construct the wagons I need, but could anyone convert a model from any railroad game to nif?
 
Sid Meier's Railroads! stores the units in the .nif format; so if you get that game you could use those assets.

Perhaps I get, but I did not plan to buy a game just to copy a few units from it. And because I am not skilled with blender, I can not convert the trains of Railroad Tycooon III - don' know, if this is possible.
