Units From Wyrmshadow

Considering how far Wyrmshadow has come concerning modeling and how many historical units he has already made I would like to request that he use his skills to make a what if German, Italian or Japanese (cold war / modern) tank. He did such a splendid job making the timeline units. This would provide him the opportunity to fully use his imagination and artistic abilities as well as providing a unit that could be used in an epic game mod.

Had a look into the editor again, to see which MBTs are lacking in my mod. Looks like Italy (Rome), India, Mexico (Aztecs), Japan, Mongols, Turkey (Ottomans), Ireland (Celts), Mahgreb (Catharge), Syria (replace Sumeria), Central and South America (Maya and Inca) don't have tanks of any acceptable quality.

This is just to give others some inspiration:

T-90 would cover Russia, India, Mahgreb, Arabia in a civ mod
TAM for South America
Type 90 for Japan
Ariete for Italy

In some other countries older tanks are still active, like the M-60 or T-62 / T-72.

Not a wishlist, just reporting status. ;)

I had a look into Wirm’s models: Hard to pick one, but in the end I would say there is a number of reasonably good MBTs around but very few post-WW2 self-propelled artillery units.

Thus, I’ll second El Justo idea for M109 SP howitzer (any version)

Since M109 is worldwide used, this unit could be useful for a number of civs in epic games:

Greece
Persia/Iran
Rome/Italy
Germany
Egypt
Arabs / Saudi Arabia
Korea (South)
Portugal
Netherlands
Spain
United States

Plus many more in mods, such as Israel, Canada, Taiwan, Brazil

Thanks to Oz / Wyrm for this opportunity

I like that music, but I don't recognise most of 'em.
but I do know enough to notice that there a distinct lack of Churchill Crocodiles.

First of all; Many thanks Oz and Wyrm!

Hope these ones will be in ur poll:
Merkava Mk.IV MBT
Ariete MBT
M109 SPG
T-90 MBT
M1131 Stryker
Boxer APC

The LAVIII

Spoiler :
The LAV III armoured vehicle (AV) is the latest in the Generation III Light Armoured Vehicle (LAV) series built by General Dynamics Land Systems, entering service in 1999.[1] It is based on the Swiss MOWAG Piranha IIIH 8x8.[2]

It was developed in Canada and is the primary mechanized infantry vehicle of the Canadian Land Force Command and the New Zealand Army.[1] The United States Army uses a more lightly armed LAV III derivative named the Stryker. The LAV III and the Stryker have also been referred to as Land Assault Vehicles.

Above taken from Wikipedia. The LAVIII is also used by Saudi Arabia. Other versions are used my many other nations. The LAV-25 is used by the US Marines and is very similar to the LAVIII. The Swiss MOWAG Piranha that the LAVIII is based on is used by a long list of nations.

Redback the Stryker already exists here. Made by Bjornlo.

I need the LAVIII to use as the NZLAV in my New Zealand scenario. At present the best option I have is the Stryker but that doesn't work well as it has no turret like the NZLAV has, just a machine gun mounted on top.

Picture of the NZLAV here:

EDIT: Just finished downloading Wyrm's preview file. He has the LAVIII and the LAV-25 models.

Who do you think found the model for him?

There's no need to write a lengthy description of the AFV's. I know them all fairly well. Especially if I have a model of them. All you need to do is write a nice list, that is all we need.

It took me many hours to go through my files, and render the images for just the modern AFV model I have. I have gigs and gigs of the stuff and they are not all in one place, so I might have missed about a dozen other rare ones here and there.
And this is why I'm making these preview files to make picking that much easier for the rest of you.

If you're wondering just WHERE I got these..
Well 2 years of http://gunpoint-3d.com/ subscriptions was a pretty penny.
Ozzy bought me a year @ meshfactory.com (that's where all those pretty modern jets came from)
I'm also a paying member of this site http://www.3dcadbrowser.com/ so I've managed to grab a lot of goodies here.
Google's Sketup Warehouse has a lot of free stuff and some of it quite good
Then you can also try googling "free 3D model" and see what happens.
Over the last 6-7 years of constantly searching online, scrounging games.. I've amassed a large collection of computer models. It's massive. If I don't have it, either no one's made it or I can't afford to buy it.

Now take all that $$$$ and time invested, and I think 1800 free samples is a generous number.

Which brings me to the 2 complaints earlier in this thread, about $$$. If you don't like it, don't participate.

I had to stop this hobby because I was about to hit a financial wall last year. I was spending time I didn't have in a nonprofitable way. I didn't solicit any business, this has been Ozzy's idea the whole time. There is no need to get into specific numbers, but he paid me handsomely for the 3 tanks I did from scratch for him. I gave him what I thought was an astronomical number because of the extra work I'd have to do to make the model in the 1st place. This time around he asked me for more, even offered the same price. (I've got way too much integrity to gouge a friend like that)... but I told him that for the same price, I'd do 10-20 tanks if I don't have to make the model myself.
And he even paid me upfront, which was serendipidous (his words) because the next week I ran into a problem that needed that exact amount to correct.

Wyrmshadow, just one question--I have obtained a model of a Soviet 152 mm 2A36 artillery which didn't seem to appear in your list. Would you care to have a look at it and see if it's worth adding to your portfolio?

My choice would be
M 109
M270 MLRS (if the firaxis version is still the only one available)
TP 1 Fuchs / Fox (would have preffered a version with milan rocket launcher but mg is also great)
and either a T-80 or a T-90 tank which one I don't care as they both are used by countries which could use some tanks ;))

I would second Samez about M109 and MLRS, but I would add the following:
-D-30 or M-46 towed artillery, as long as we don't seem to have any post-war towed artillery units;
-Nuclear missile transporter--could be useful for some scenarios;
-Possibly AMX-10 or VAB French APC's--as French lack Cold War mech infantry units;

P.S. The model mentioned above is from one of the Sudden Strike modding communities, possibly made by one of the members.

I second (third? fourth?) the Type 90, T-90, Challenger II and Leopard 2.
I'd also request a T-80.

And thank-you again.

When will the poll start Oz???

Ah yes well democracy ...

IMO there's been too little input (= interest?) to warrant a proper poll. I want to please as many people as possible. I'm still awaiting Wyrmshadow's final go-ahead, but the tentative list is essentially in 3 parts: 3 units which would evidently have been chosen by acclaim (Challenger 2; M109; Russian T90). I gave fair advance warning that there were certain people whose opinion (due, e.g., to their long term contributions here) I was going to put-the-finger-on-the-scale-for, which yields the Luchs; M113a2; and Ariete). I reserved 1/3rd for my personal desire to have feasible military units for an essentially hypothetical "5th Era". These include the SF “Main Battle Tank”; either of the twin barrel monstrosities; and the unimaginateively named MBT-11. Also, I've asked Wyrm if he is indeed up to doing a Crocodile; if so, a flame-throwing tank seems a crowd pleaser.

So, in short 3 modern MBTs, a fine modern era SPA, a seemingly needed near-vanilla M113, 1 8x8, and my 3 SF toys; the Croc if Wyrm's up to it.

- and a second round is always a possibility :mischief:

Best To All
