Virote's Unit Previews

:bump:

Here's the complete set of animations:

I know about the knee coming through the kilt, I couldn't find any way around it, so I'm going to C'n'P over it when I've made the unit.

Sorry for becoming so lazy

Can't you manually control the kilt? :)

Looks fantastic by the way! I can't wait :D

Nah, the kilt doesn't seem to want to go over the knee. I don't mind too much, though, as it's only a few frames in the attack animation!

Doing postwork on that sort of thing is a real hassle. One good trick to avoid it is simply to colour the tops of his thighs (or whichever part of the body is poking through) the same colour as the garment. Then it won't show at civ-scale.

<--- has cheerleaded for this particular unit on many occasions.

I have no eye for detail. All I can see is sweet cans ancient barbaric whatever unit. And I love it.

Right, so I've been trying to change the death animation to get it above the ground, but to no avail. I even made a new file in which I completely remade the death animation, but it didn't work...

So, what I want to know is, if I made the ground in the death animation invisible, would that stop his legs being swallowed by the ground during his death animation?

It would, but there would be no shadow, which would not be good.

When you're altering his pose, make sure you zoom right in with the Auxiliary Camera, so you can be sure that his limbs are above the ground. The closer you are, the more reliable the preview image. Still, however you do it, this sort of thing is definitely a serious chore. It's worth it to get it right though, especially as it's a good death animation otherwise (and a little different too).

Just a bump to say that I'm rendering everything apart from the death now.

And as for the death, I have a question- if I raise the rotate ball (and thus the PDM and Spear), a) will the ground follow? (I can't remember if it is attacked to the Rotate Ball, or the other way around), and b) (assuming a) is "no") Does Steph's SBB automatically center the frame on the PDM? I think it does, but I can't remember...
