Hello everyone, the poll comes out a bit earlier than usual because I simply won't have time to do it tomorrow. Today, we change continents and go to Africa. PLEASE READ THIS POST BEFORE POSTING things like "where's "x" african civ ?". It was really hard to come up with a good division among african civs, because there would be too many for a single poll, and most divisions were simply too unbalanced, having too many on one side and too phew on the other. So I came with a division that includes the Maghreb and West Africa (the South east limit being Liberie/Sierra Leone/Ivory Coast) on one side. So if you don't find the african civ you want, ask yourself if it isn't on the next poll (unless you firmly believe that civ should be on this poll).
You know the rules by now, I don't think you need an explanation.

If you didn't participated in the former polls, here are the links to them :

I wholeheatedly than you all for your participation in this wonderful project, and you wish you all the best !

I voted for Carthage, Mali and Ashanti.

Benin would be my fourth choice, and Morocco would be the fifth. I would not see any trouble if Ghana replaced Ashanti, but I prefer the second. And I think Songhai should stay out this time, to make way for Mali.

Morocco, Mamluks and Berbers

Morocco is kind of self explanatory, held their own for a long time under pressure from much stronger European powers, even if it was a protectorate, this is still impressive.
Mamluks are an obvious one, they repelled the bloody Mongols, I mean, how much more badass can you even be - the only problem being the weird decision that made Saladin ruler of Cairo, so I am not sure what their first city will be.
Berbers - the most underrated and underexplored group of African history, and that is saying a lot.

Voted Ashanti, Mali, and Benin. I just find these civs interesting. Kumasi is already in the game as a city-state. Maybe they will released Mali with a Great Mosque of Djenne wonder.

I'm also interested in Nubia, Carthage, Kanem-Bornu, Morocco, Dahomey, Mossi, and Yoruba and Hausa.

I voted Songhai, Hausa (which you misspelled...), and Tuareg (though I wouldn't object to a broader Berber civ). I wouldn't mind seeing Mali, either, and I'd accept Carthage but I'd rather see Phoenicia.

Personnaly, I voted for Benin, Morocco and Mali.

For the first, I like that Civs in the are somewhat represented by organized states, with an administration, an army, cities, art, architecture, etc. And Benin perfectly fits that role, unlike some civs like the Huns. Also, Benin has a modern counterpart in the state of Benin (although I admit that the Benin kingdom is more in actual Nigeria than in Benin). Benin fits everything that could introduce it as Civ in the game, except for one thing ... it has no connection or prolonged history with western major powers (only Portugal, which Firaxis decided to be a minor european civ), and so, since the game has to present civs that people know to sell, it is considered as a "wild card". Oba Ewuare, Oba Ozolua or Queen Idia could be excellent leaders.

For the second, I believe its very long history is self explanatory. Plus, the game lacks a bit of muslim civs. Also, to join my ulterior point, I like that civs are represented by organized states, and I feel like that if Morocco is added, there is no need for a Berber civilization.

For the last, I hesitated between Mali and Songhai (it's hard to see both in the game), since the latter had the bigger empire. However, my choici went to Mali for three reasons. First, Mali has a modern counter in the form of the malian country. Second, in a dual leader system, Mali has far more to offer than Songhai, with a more gold digger leader like Mansa Musa, and a more militaristic leader like Sundiata Keita. Finally, the Mali's influence extended much further than the Songhai ever did.

I don't feel like having a modern counterpart is any particular reason for (or against) including a particular civ. I think including a Berber civ is a little too lumpy, but I'd love to see a Tuareg civ led by Tin Hinan or a Numidian civ led by Juba II (who, incidentally, married Cleopatra's daughter and created a civilization that was a fascinating mixture of Hellenic, Egyptian, and Berber influences).

Since the number of voters has been terribly decreasing these last weeks, the number of voters being more or less :
Part I : 105 votes
Part II : 95 votes
Part III : 65 votes
Part IV : 49 votes
Parti V : 39 votes
Part VI : 22 votes
I believe people are getting a little tired of these polls, and therefore, I'll make a break this week, so no poll this Friday.

Mali and Morocco.
Since I'd prefer the Phoenicians to Carthage, and both are incredibly unlikely to be included, I cannot vote for Carthage. And with two options, Mali and Morocco seem most interesting and most promising.
Nubia/Meroe/Kush (even Sudan) would make a great civ by all standards. But it is not in the Maghreb nor is it west African.

I voted for Ashanti, Mali, and Carthage.

I was really tempted to vote for Morocco as well because I wanted the Moors/Almoravids, but I couldn't think of anyone to drop. I felt the Mali are far too important. The Ashanti are a fascinating one to include as a true West African Kingdom (I'm glad we already have the Kongo as another non-Muslim African state, though). Carthage may be one of my personal favorite civs of all time.

Well, forgive me, but with these many polls covering the whole world, mistakes may happen, especially when you're trying to divide some civs in some continent so that you don't have one list with a ton of civs and another with some. That's even more true when you're specialized in african history. Now, if you don't vote for Nubia because you feel it doesn't belong here, go ahead, but know that I still won't include it in the next poll about Africa.

Berbers is the only interesting choice IMO.

1 Mali, which was a an incredible rich and Huge Empire under Mansa Musa and should always be represented in game I think.
2 Ashanti, A Kingdom since around the year 1000 that traded with and kept its independence from the Europeans (first the Portuguese and later the Dutch and the British) for a long time until was finally defeated by the British in 1896 and its core lies in what is now Ghana.
3 Morocco
