VQ07 - Snakes on Pangea!!

By cliking "Lock Mod Asset" ... i wonder why it is a weed moment if it was not checked by default ... I say bob did it on purpose :mischief: to deprive me of the convenience of the turn teller ... that is the single most important mod I use, I don't care much abt the rest (autologger, civalerts). Bob still couldn't get over Nara ....

So, copper snake head it is.

Don't try to make my incompetence sound like an evil plan. I'm just not that witty or capable of that much foresight!

Quiet set of 20 turns.

Research wise, got us Animal husbandry, Wheel, Argiculture (Req for Pottery), now heading for Pottery.

Production wise, got us the worker he connecte dthe pigs, now building a mine. Also produced a warrior to go north-east towards copper. Build Barracks halfway, and then switch to settler when Moscow grows to 4. Sould be out any time soon.

Scouing wise, met quite a few new civs:

First is the Little Corporal:

Next is Freddy:

End of my turnset we met the lovely Hatty:

Battle wise, we killed a lion and a wolf. One scout is now healing, the other has upped a level, left unpromoted for now.

Here is the world as we know of:

Our part:

Seeing the map, it seems our snakes are going to be really short and there would be no problem with getting enough cities.

Yup, in my test game I quickly realized that I should have restricted the AI count a bit to improve the spacing for snake play. As is... well I don't think Snakes in Space will be happening.

lurker's comment:
Maybe instead of the BFC, the initial 9 squares need to be adjacent. This will allow you to build more cities. The restriction would be in place that cities-9 can only touch but can't loop (even at a corner) or overlap:

That makes me up. So this is "I got it". Will play later tonight or tomorrow morning....

Greyfox I notice your video card is displaying some weird analomies. (trekkie talk ew)

Perhaps you need some new video drivers. My card did that thing with the eyes too but the 1.61 patch fixed that.

Actually, the pictures you see above are played on my laptop (shh ... I was n office when playing) ... which ahas a much lesser graphics card (Radeon 9000 Mobility 32MB). At home, I am using a GF6800 128MB ... however, somehow I think the graphics quality is poorer for my home coputer. ... hmm ...

Well, I guess we should start... "snake-mapping" :)

If we send our first settler NE-E (that's 4E, 3N total) we secure the copper & fur, but the city is not very good (it's coastal at least, so it will be able to fish.) That snake has room to grow SE-S then, but it doesn't look like very good land.

The only food bonus we can get is SW-W, but that won't be able to get to the copper without a lot of looping, so we'd need to get IW and hope for good luck if we go that route...

We have a nice mix of neighbors for aggression. We have Gandhi in a cramped position in the back (should be a pushover whenever we want to go after him) and two or the three angry AI's (Mao & Toku) border us. Fred & Hatty are distant and can make good trading partners.

Don't forget that snakes can tunnel out of water.

Nice idea ChrTh, but my "perfect city placement" bias makes me say overlap is bad mmmlay? ;)

Yeah, I had a feeling you didn't want to create a chain of Naras :)

(Radeon 9000 Mobility 32MB).

Wow it works on a card with only 32mb. So I could have used the computer I was at when I was away from home DOH......

I wondered Greyfox....though I think the eyeball thingy on your home PC is kewl makes the AI civs look evil.... MOHAAAAA

Off topic:

ChrTh - Ohhh warlords Ottoman....sounds good. Thinking about getting it but need new video card first.....

I never played snakes as a kid so I suck at the concept.

Greyfox says 4east3north....

Bobrath says 3nw1w or 1 north respectively....

Basically the BFCs have to interlock perfectly.

So our city is in the north and towards the copper is east. If I count from the BFC 4 east puts us in water??? Am I seeing this wrong or is this from the city tile which wouldn't interlock the BFC perfectly.

So I put these two rudimentary maps as I see them interlocking with the BFC regardless of positioning. Please correct me as I sure someone will and I will follow that.

Also when I got to the world mode it turns all black so I couldn't draw the lines and have that issue with other games. When I reload it disappears sometimes.

Here are all the spots available to us to start:

See how the corners of the BFCs interlock? That's the perf placement I'm trying to get to. Hope that helps!

lurker's comment: If you guys go for the bottom left, try and tunnel out where the empty spot in the top left's yellow spot is.

Thanks Bobrath that does indeed help. Greyfox wanted to get that copper so we settle up there by the fur in the yellow spot. Not the greatest spot but we should get to the copper for early axe rushing. Also this is Peter so the borders won't expand as quickly but on Prince it shouldn't take long. I am going to finish tomorrow am and will check here before I do. I think we should think about another settler and get that spot near the horses.

Remember, once our snake gets a "head", the next city has to be adjacent (by our rules) to that head. No growing out of our tail! Which means settling copper and then horses... is verboten!

Well, I understand bob's originally intention correctly, that's 4E3N, which is equivalent to 3NE1E using bobrath's terminology. They are the same ... wonder what confuese you, cosmic

Now, referring to bob's graphics, I was originally going to suggest we head NW first. Yes, you heard me right. NW, not NE. Why? #1 that will secure us some silver and cute little beavers. #2, we are rushing AIs, and although doable, but it might be difficult with only 2 cities. SO, the plan was to grow the snake NW, then turn back east. That will give us the 4 cities when we finally go back to the original copper site.

With one caveat ... or two. There might not be room up in the north for our snake to maneuver back to the copper site. The sNorthern lands are crappy. That's why I did not post this idea last night.

Having considered all things, I think we can go striaght for the copper and start producing axes to kill off AI. Gandhi get my first vote, Beijing my second.

Greyfox I was counting from the BFC for your configuration but after Bobrath's explanation I see you were counting from the city. Anyways I am done and have settled as per Bobrath's configuration. As to the horses we can't settle there which I understand now and Mao is nearby there.

Settler done in 1 turn for the next guy to find the snakey connection.
Gandi asks for OB and say yes to scout.
Move warrior/scouts

So who will our first victim be? (I say Ghandi) Does it have to conform to the snake configuration? What about that city Mao put just south of us. If we capture it would we have to raze it?
