I was reading about ethics and one of the diagrams was in a square. That’s it. Nothing hidden.

You left out circles. Hexagons were the primary movement and position shapes for the many fabulous board wargames of the 1970s and 80s. The shape is indelibly imprinted on my brain.

hexagons are the greatest rationalized measuring shape for a lot of different uses of space and distance. also, bees rock.

if i would go for aesthetically pleasing... i think a triangle.

This feels interesting.
It does φeel so.
It's a property of the regular pentagon, for example:

The ratio appears in all parts with symmetrical relations to those.

No diamond? [pissed]
If I could I would amend “square” to include diamond. I really meant any kind of four-sided shape, but then again the trapezoid is different from the others.

In my insatiable zeal to get the thread posted, I neglected to write that the shapes would be limited to those with 3-8 sides. Perhaps I will have to do a Lucky Charms edition (balloons are out though) at some point in the future. :)

Polls can be changed.... I'm going out to lunch, but if you want adjustments, post what you want it to be and I can do it in a couple of hours.

The trapezoid is just a (parallelogram) rectangle with one or two triangles added. It's why its surface area is small side(height)+(large side-small side)(height)/2= (large side+small side)(height)/2.

While it could have been included as its own thing, I doubt many would prefer it, due to itself being arguably too derivative of the two first shapes in the poll.
