Socialism is the pure form of communisum, money less and equal for all.

w00t I beat the thread

Whenever I think of Socialism I think of Eugene Debs...that's just a wrong start right there.

You know, in theory everything can sound good, in practice...it just doesn't work that well.

You can ask a million peopel what socialism is, and no concensus will be reached.

Socialism is the doctrine that makes 'society' a moral entity with or without the rejection of the 'individual' as one. Moral because it acts, posesses consciousness and responsibility. An individual is subjected in varying degrees to this entity, the 'will of society' being either a despot or an oligarchy.

I think I once started this exact thread.

Nothing good resulted from it, of course.

In the western world Socialism is a well funded wealfare state.

In the third world Socialism tends to be the mantra of communist dictators.

Maybe I wouldn't rehash my old jokes if people didn't rehash old threads.

Sorry, Perf, I checked (here is the link to my thread) and in fact you never said that. Have a nice day. ;) (Actually, though, I myself did make a similar joke, so in fact you are stealing material from me, which is evern worse. :p)

But eh, back to the subject at hand...

I think that's a fair assessment.

I'd also add that in the West socialism has become less of an ideology and more of "a thing governments do sometimes."

Thanks:goodjob:

@ the "B and C" voters,

B is "a mix of capitalism and communism".
To my mind, "C" is the negation of capitalism.
So, arent B and C mutually exclusive ?

It's offerign a greater control to the workers, while still maintaining currency, which negates communism.

I say socialism in reality is like davo said. A well funded welfare system ensuring everybody has at least something, but also allows a large amount of freedom on how people earn and spend there money. Esentually, its mild capitalism.
In theory its probably more communist, but i'll take actual results over that any day.
