What do we actually want out of OT?

In addition, I come here for the community.

Ditto.

I voted all of the options in the poll except for the first one. Discussion on religion or politics certainly has a place here but I don't want a "highly structured environment". Moderation is fine in moderation, but if I want structure I'd better join a debating club or a more serious discussion forum, not an Off-Topic forum of a gaming site.

I don't give a crap about serious discussion, it's boring.

This. I come here for the less serious discussions. Whenever you want to talk about something serious it just ends up going in circles with the other person not respecting your opinion and thinking they are always right. With the jokey threads I get much less frustrated and they are just more fun.

I want all of those things at different times and I want to opt in to those things when I feel like it. Actually the fact that all of those things in your poll live relatively happily under one roof is what makes CFC's OT section the best OT section of any forum I've ever been on. That's mostly thanks to the intelligence and breadth of the community here.

Well to be honest, a man has needs.

And OT fulfills them.

How OT is currently is almost to my liking. Serious discussion threads for serious subjects with other threads still retaining funny one-liners. I just wish for S&T to be returned to OT.

I definitely spend the majority of my time reading the more serious threads to learn about things in detail that I have a vague knowledge of . Im a " Jack of all trades , master of none " kind of person , so if a topic interests me I like to read about the details even though I don't have a great deal to contribute .

I used to come here for serious chat about politics, but most people are too set in their opinions to make it interesting.

So I chose:

I come for advice, or ask a...threads
lighthearted one liners or puns
jokey small talk

I chose "other" too because I also come here for a kind of cultural exchange, opinions from such a wide range of countries is unusual to come across in real life.

I come here to debate with people who have no means of physically punching me in the face.

That's why I don't look at the serious threads (not for you, but others ;))

That's a shock.

Just being truthful, and fwiw, I am hardly alone in that around here. Take your reply here for instance. Do you come here to provide pithy one liners about other posters? :mischief:

The poll would suggest its the numer one reason people come here.

Also you like to argue, how do we know you're just not looking for an argument right now. :mischief:

I come here because we have a very unique group of people. There's people from all age groups, a lot of diverse ethnic backgrounds, countries, religions, sexual orientations, political leanings, etc. This leads to a lot of interesting points of view.

Do you interpret my original post as looking for an arguement?
