What first brought you here to this wonderful place we call CFC?

For me it was right around the time CivIII came out and I was looking for a map of Middle-Earth to play an epic game on. This site was the first site that came up in my Google search results. That was around early 2002. It would take me another three years or so to actually join as a member, but I was a lurker for quite a while. I mostly haunted the CivIII C&C forums as I kept looking for new things to add to the game and expand my modding skills.

Civ IV. Don't really know exactly what I was looking for. Probably commiseration.

Found out much later that of all the gaming forums I am on this one had the liveliest World Cup conversation. Somehow blundered from sports to off-topic.

Civ4 for me. I wanted to look for tips. And after I grew bored with that I wandered here purely by chance to escape that dangerous beast known as summer boredom, and to sit back and be entertained as the barbarians beat their chests and smacked each other with clubs over the internet. Before I knew it, I ended up becoming one of the barbarians . Funny how life works that way.

I bought Civ2 back in May of 2001 and came here for some tips, though I didn't join the site until sometime around when CivIII came out.

When you gaze into the abyss...

You probably won't believe me, but I was inducted into this horror by cIV

Civ 2 brought me. In mid-2001, I discovered the idea of scenarios with custom graphics and wanted to create some custom scenarios myself. The problem was for some reason the .gif files I would make just wouldn't work in the Mac version so I thought I'd go to the internet for info about how to do it. From the choice of Apolyton and CivFanatics, I went with CivFanatics because the interface seemed fairly simple at the time and it looked like there were more scenarios too. After a while, I decided to upload some of my scenarios and registered in 2001 and been stuck here ever since!

The announcement of the best version since II. Speculated on the previews having no clue at all what was going through the minds of those spoiled with IV. All I knew is that they were very opinionated and seemed very hard to please. After the hype passed, I ended up in OT.

I was a regular on the TrekBBS off topic forum, but I started really hating those people and the forum, because:

1. Every single thread always devolved into an American style left vs right wankfest. People split up into 2 groups and basically threw poo at eachother, not having any sort of real discourse.. no conversation. Just left vs right, like a bunch of robots who can't think on their own.

At first I sucked it up, because.. hey, I'm not from North America originally, maybe I just need to get used to this way of.. discussing things.. But nope, it turns out that most of the people who do this sort of thing are just not worth sharing a forum with.

2. Everyone on there is obsessed with canon. It's always canon this, canon that. Again, I put up with it for a long time, because Star Trek fans are generally sort of.. well, you know. A bit obsessed with the franchise.. I'm a star trek fan and.. well, I'm not. I really enjoy the stories, and I've watched all of the episodes (except for TOS - ooooh you have no idea what sort of replies I'd get if I said that on trekBBS), but...

I don't really give a lick about canon. The episode writers write each episode independently, there's no sense to try to figure out some sort of a grand vision for the entire universe that makes internal logical sense. Yet that's what people spend their entire lives doing, coming up with convoluted explanations for everything and spending all their free time arguing about the shape of a species' ears or a missing nacelle, or whatever.

So I got fed up with them and left.. and I was a lurker on here for a while, I was addicted to CIV4BTS.. So the off-topic forum here was a natural choice. And so far so good ;)

Civ IV, I suppose. I sometimes wish it hadn't, this place is addictive.

Got lead here by CivIV. The pre-installed mods, like Rhye's, linked to this site, so I signed up to download some more.

Months later, I scrolled down the forum list and found the OT. That was what, 6 years ago? Jeez.

Lurking for information on Civ IV.

I'm currently at TrekBBS, and not much has changed regarding canon and the configuration of spaceships. I ended up putting one of the pro Star Trek authors (Christopher L. Bennett) on ignore because he was such a jerk to me about canon/continuity. And the Neutral Zone forum makes worst OT threads here look like a genteel picnic by comparison; over there anything goes and even the moderators openly troll people.

As for saying you don't watch TOS... try saying you hated the Abrams movies. Some people can't understand the difference between "these movies are stupid" and "you are stupid because you like these movies." The first is my sincerely-held opinion, but the second is what most of the people there insist I said.

Actually, there are people there who say they've never seen TOS. It does make it difficult to have a conversation about the ethics of changing history when the person you're talking to has never seen "City on the Edge of Forever."

Anyway, I'm entered in two of the avatar contests over there - wish me luck. :)

As for what brought me here... somebody from the RPG forum I was on recommended CFC as a good place to discuss and get information about Civ II. So I came, registered, read the Civ II forum, and promptly got into an argument in one of the other Civ forums (III or IV) over whether or not Canada has a culture.

I drifted away for awhile, then was reminded of this place when the board software wished me a happy birthday (that was nice of it). After exploring a bit, I found Off-Topic and have been here ever since (I do still read and occasionally post in Civ II).

Originally came here making unit ports for Civ3.

Googled a Civ problem, found it... that was years and years ago... then things changed, and here I am, as a new person! Yay new internet personas!

Civ2/Civ3

Way back in 04. Civ Forums were much more lively back then. Then I wandered to OT and have been here ever since.

civ IV

I played some of the multiplayer in whatever the multiplayer function was (forgot the name of the server)

The kind that would be 3v3 all war or whatever on that one pangaea map where you would play for 3 hours and everyone would leave at about the time macemen came out

as far as posting, i suppose i was bored.
