[GRAPHICS] What If Unit Thread: Matsuda123, Kine100, and Mattem's Latest Additions

I'd say this is looking good! I'm excited to see the Civ V unit brought to Civ IV, it will make for a very pretty Arquebusier with a stand. :) Actually, just seeing this progress and and knowing that is coming has inspired me to work harder at putting out the series. I'll being drawing concepts tonight.

I'll look into making those hulls for you if I can too. We both help each other out, and I ought to help more. :)

Well, I've swapped in the Civ5 musketman, Mohawk warrior, and the Tlingit rifleman. I did the Tlingit dude for SwordofGeddon.
I'm leaning toward the chinese spearman model for asians. Don't much like that model, but it is "standard" asian model for most of the units. Been browsing for middle east, south american, ect. But, haven't decided on anything.

These look quite good, especially the converted Civ V musketman. :) Tlingit stuff is always cool too, great designs.

I'm thinking however that I will also create custom models and guns for many of these civilizations as well. Designing theoretical guns and military uniforms for these units, in line with what I've been doing before. :) The MesoAmerican Arquebus is nearly finished, and drawings for the Arquebusier and modeling will begin shortly as well. I will try to finish these designs by tomorrow, and begin modeling soon. Then I'll work on the Asian Arquebusiers. The Chinese definitely have something almost perfect for it, I just need to make the gun for it. Featured are the pictures of the Arquebusier I plan to make for them, as well as the gun. Southeast Asia also has a good potential unit, too, as seen here. I just need to model them.

Good, send em when you got em.

In the mean time. I'm thinking the grenadiers grenade might due for the grenade slinger. I haven't even looked at the peltast to see if it will work yet.

That would indeed be what young people in my day used to refer to as cool. I say upload them here as a pack or something for people to use. Even just stuff packs with no animations go a long way.

Well I didn't yet finish the Arquebusier, but I did make a Sino Warrior unit, as well as a Sino Catapult replacement. Technically it is a traction trebuchet, but it's strength and time in which it was used (Warring States period) make it more suitable for a catapult replacement. Reference images are included inside for help. :) I did take some artistic liberty with it though lol...

Thanks man. I don't know what is happening. MightyToad seems to have vanished. :(

Hope you weren't holding your breath. I'm not dead. :goodjob:
Here is what I've done today:

Only change I made to the Peltast animations is change the stone throw effect to the grenade throw in the strike KF.
Could still add the death fade for the grenade, and the visibility for the grenade so it disappears during the throwing animation, but I don't really care too much.
The peltast doesn't have a melee attack unlike the grenadier.
Anyway, this is the Civ5 samurai model with the swords and helmet ornament removed. I like it. The gloss map that came with it looks really shiny in game.
Also used the yamato spearman model for the base nif.

I can breathe a sigh of relief now. I feel so happy to see you post again man. :) I was worried for a moment... I didn't want another Bakuel situation.

This is pretty awesome to see. I'm so glad to see the idea worked, and now we have a new type of early Grenadier. :) This is beautiful. I'll see what I can do on giving other nations models for these units too, especially the Chinese and Arabs.

Got your Sino Warrior mapped and rigged. I gave him some basic cloths. Used the vanilla warrior shoes and loin cloth. And a leather jacket off google images. There is also the blank images if you don't like my fashion sense.
It's rigged to the axeman skeleton.

And here is the Sino Catapult. I just used the trebuchet's textures. I accidentally deleted the axles.
Also, in order to use the trebuchet's animations I had to raise the top of the mesh up to line up with the trebuchet's throwing arm. Other wise you would have to edit every KF to change the position of the bone manually. For the same reason I wasn't able to use the trebuchet's rock since it's position isn't remotely the same as the bucket on this one.

An alternative would be to use the trebuchet's rock and sling instead of the bucket.

This is very exciting stuff, and as I say, you can modify what is needed to get things to work. :) Very cool. I'll be texturing these two this weekend. It's cool to have a siege weapon from another culture as a flavor replacement. Now, what might an African or Mesoamerican trebuchet or catapult look like?

African:
add some zebra skins, gnu skulls and/or tribal mask.

Mesoamerican:
add some jaguar skin and/or feather

Don't make them elvish or orcish but make them more colourful then the European one.

I haven't done much of anything, but I'm not giving up and never will. I will crank out that warrior and catapult as soon as possible. :) I am drawing designs for the Mongol tank though

For a start no wheels as the south and central american civilizations did not use them. Plus, given their terrain it is highly unlikely they would have tried to push these around as opposed to assembling them on site anyway. Also, darker more jungle looking wood with possibly some jaguar skins or stuff hanging off them.
