What is Firaxis up to? Civ VI looms in the horizon:

One could always prophecy that computers would cease to exist in homes just like the guy who said they would never be in homes?

Monitors will be replaced by holograms, and perhaps one day holodecks, but they will always have a computer running them.

New TV's are practically PC themselves, seeing as how we are weaning off of analog.

I would love Pirates! 2. MMO or not.

How about a remake of Gettysburg/Antietam? It's been 15 years. 3D civil war Pickett's Charge..
I approve of Minnesotans killing traitors.
(Fun Fact: Minnesota was the first state to pledge troops to the Union as Governor Ramsey was in Washington when war broke out.)

Firaxis might be putting some more work into making mobile games. They have made a couple of neat mobile games recently. I've barely played them though, not because of the game quality but because the iPhone screen is just too small and I don't have an iPad.

I'd imagine the free-for-all pirate ship battles would be pretty hardcore.

And the dancing! Few other video games capture the importance of dance in seventeenth century Caribbean society.

My guess is they're thinking about what they want Civ 6 to look like, but probably haven't started making it just yet. Wouldn't be surprised if they start within the next year, though (although that doesn't mean I expect an announcement in the next year).

I have to say, MMORPGs have never appealed to me, primarily because of the subscription fee, secondarily because of the stories of WoW addicts, and also because of the fantasy setting. But one that focuses on pirates and the high seas? Like, the biggest game about boarding landlubbers' ships ever? Sounds kinda interesting.

I know Sid sounded interested in mobile in his latest couple interviews, but I have to wonder if Firaxis is more cautious about that given Civ World's demise. Though it's possible that's only caused them to be more cautious about Facebook as a platform.

Civ V gold is on sale on Steam, at least for the next few hours.

The only franchise turnover I'm sick and tired of is the Sims. They're already coming out with 4. I'm pissed cuz they always wait till the *end* of a cycle to release a weather expansion pack, which I only got just last god damn christmas, when it was out for a single month by then!

I would like a Pirates 2 Civilization MMORPG!!!

Fixed. It will be dwarf fortress meets minecraft meets civilization. Then we can have spearman vs giant death robots.

Seems unlikely. They have new adverts up for a new Civ V expansion.

Woah, I haven't seen any of those.

I think I'd like another expansion first, actually. They really hit a stride with Brave New World and I'd like to see where else they could go with what's already there.

Or, they could use all they've pinned down in V and use that to start something even better with VI.

Either way, if it's good, we all win.

Oh, consoles are double screwed. I mean some kind of ubiquitous platform ( eyeglasses, phones, etc. ) will be used in lieu of PCs.

This would be fine and dandy except for the tendency for those platforms to require traceable logins and such. I guess I just like the open nature of the PC and the fact that I can unplug my internet and keep playing if I like.

5 years is an incredibly short time to dismantle a whole industry like PC Gaming.

Define 'always'. Weather was new to The Sims with the Seasons pack for TS2 and there were at least two other expansion packs after that.

Perception bias on my part.

I'm not an Onlive fan by any definition, but I think you're way too paranoid about them. :mischief:

Here you go.

I'd like a full fledged Pirates! sequel. Less dancing and more raping and plundering though.

I like real games to be on something more than a 7 inch display.

Meh, you can make games that work on the iPad, you just need to strip them down. I haven't played CivRev, but it sounds very stripped down compared to the other Civ games, excepting the first. That might limit the gameplay options, but if you use your iPad for gaming you expect a very different experience anyway. Still, the iPad certainly limits replayability. I'm bored crapless of Infinity Blade II already, and I only got the damn thing less than two weeks ago, and haven't played it every day by any means. Tiny Wings held my attention for even less time.
