What is Supremacy - Dev Blog

Kind of a huge design leap between the Level 2 and Level 3 infantry, and then hardly any change at all between the Level 3 and Level 4.

(Wags finger at lazy Firaxis concept artist)

2-3 is generic to affinity specific (there isn't much change between 1-2 either)
Also you need to recognize it as clearly a soldier (as opposed to other unique supremacy units)

Aren't the level 1 and 2 identical to the ones in the Purity dev blog?

They should be, level 1 and 2 are the same for everyone. (The generic versions)

For each it seems it is
1-simple common
2-slightly militarized common
3-simple affinity
4-more militarized affinity

Sweet stuff, and this is why Supremacy is my second choice: sleek units!

But I agree that level 4 infantry looks rather samey compared to 3.

The article itself was also rather barebones, retreading already disclosed information in its gaunt paragraphs. Only a droplet of news in the text, which is the fact you can forsake formation bonuses in favour of the opposite, "lone wolf" perks. I suppose they're clamping up until the next round of interviews and reveals.

I'd echo others in saying that the Tier 3 and 4 infantry look a bit samey. I realize they don't want to make them look like totally different units, but a bit more of a difference would be nice (something I thought they did better with Purity)...

That floating tank looks pretty boss though.

I figure all three affinities can be aggressive but they seem more so in these previews that show unit art rather than things not related to the military

I think he was referring to the bit at the end with "Resistance is futile.” being what Supremacy would say to the other factions.

The thing is that the stated beliefs of supremacy (technology is a great thing that we should pursue with vigor to improve our lives, that we should upgrade our minds and bodies with technology and achieve digital immortality, etc) don't necessary lend themselves to violence. So peaceful people who have these beliefs are going to be very disappointed if they are just the violent borg faction.

Plus there's the fact they've come out and said that Supremacy won't be the "evil robot" faction. Being the violent borg faction would seem to go against that.

I notice that the Purity floating tank has a pinkish glow similar to Floatstone while the Supremacy flying tank has a yellow glow like Firaxite. It leads me to believe that the minerals will be required for those units, and the Harmony advanced tank unit will require Xenomass.

I don't think this is the right affinity for peaceful players.

They are only previewing the military units (same as with Purity)
All 3 affinities should be equally usable for military or non military players.

So is affinity set straight after or during the level 2 phase of units, in terms of technology advances? If during, I reckon level 2 units should have some slightly different concept art for each affinity. Otherwise it makes the purity affinity look like the default affinity.

Other than that, the designs look great.

Right, but it's not just the military units that make me think it's going to be militaristic. Even the victory condition is aggressive. But, I guess we'll just have to wait and find out.

As a side-note, I don't want computer chips in my body, but Purity being war-focussed doesn't really bother me.

They've said the affinities are purposefully not tied to specific playstyles. Thankfully.

It's a valid possibility, but the colour of those effects match the markings on the units, and while it's possible those effects remain independent, they could change with the markings to other tones depending on the faction.

That's a good observation. I noticed the color difference, but didn't make the connection to Firaxite.

If both Firaxite and floatstone are just different coloured things you use to float in the air then I must admit the difference between them seems a little less significant...
