What is the attention span of a Sarah Palin ?

As I said in the other thread:

I would not have cared if she had written specific statistics or something, but it was the general about the general theme of her campaign/philosophy in general.... If she was authentic at all, it should be a slam dunk. She shouldn't need a cheat sheet to remind her what she stands for.

maybe she just needed the words there in case she lost her train of thought, or got sidetracked and had to change subjects. Actually if she could get thru a lengthy speech based on a few words, that aint bad even if it shows a lack of preparation. But she shouldn't be chastising people for using prompters, if she hasn't used them politicians she has supported have used them so thats hypocritical.

Ya know, if wingnuts need a hero and leader, there are plenty of wingnuts to choose from who aren't as obviously stupid as Palin. The fact that the wingnuts don't dismiss her as too stupid to breath pretty much make the lot of them look even dumber than they would otherwise.

We wouldn't trust an average joe to run a Fortune 500 company. We would want somebody with ABOVE-average understandings of corporate leadership and the market.

We wouldn't trust an average joe to run the Military. We'd want an ABOVE-average candidate with superior organizational skills, leadership, and command of tactics.

Why would we trust an average guy to lead the freakin' Free World? I want somebody more than average.

Maybe it's just me, but I want a president who is so brilliant and so eloquent that when he explains things, he makes me feel like an idiot on a regular basis for not thinking of it sooner.

Who gave us 8 years of Bush? She strikes me as his Alaskan cousin, and while writing on your hand is  to me, I'm more impressed by someone who can get thru all that without a prompter.

Palin makes Bush look like a rocket scientist. Seriously. No one ever claimed Bush was smart. And he was a mediocre public speaker without his own prompter. But there is a world of difference between the 2.

I would be even more impressed if what she said actually made sense and wasn't one long rambling incoherent sentence after another filled with buzzwords.

I dont agree, she's gotten pretty far and she didn't have the Bush family paving the way

edit and if she does get elected in 2012 I expect at least 4 more years of Bush-like incompetency.

me too

I did get the impression she did this to cheat in school though, like that movie where they show all the kids cheating on a test in various ways, was that Ridgemont High? Colbert showed her sitting in a chair sneaking a peak at her hand while she turned the microphone. But did she think the cameras wouldn't pick up on her hand as she waved them around? I dont know if she was trying to hide it subconsciously or not.

her pond is getting bigger, but that aside, I'd bet $20 her IQ is within 10 of Bush's, lower or higher.

If her IQ is close to Bush's, she certainly hasn't learned to demonstrate it. This is a woman who couldn't sound smart taking softball questions from Katie Couric, after all.

But I'm not worried about her swimming in a bigger pond. If she ran for the Republican nomination the other candidates would rip her to shreds.

"When the going got tough, Palin cut and ran"

Nope, notes on talking points aren't a big deal. If it had just been "taxes", and nothing else, sure, that's weird, but I don't hold it against her that she wanted to be able to checklist off her yakking.
Hmm... I'm quite puzzled at the moment at the possibility I set the bar too high for politicians.

But I don't think I do. When a politician is asked, what do you think are the top 3 things that has to be done, I do expect those to be ready knowledge. She got no further than reigning in the spending and then had to check her notes for jumpstart energy projects. Do you want a politician who answers "wait a minute, let me check" when asked for the three top things that has to be done?

I can see that notes could be useful when you have to remember something especially for that one time during a speech or something very specific. Are there any other examples though of politicians who do interviews with notes?

Oh well, may be I am too critical of politicians. I doubt it, but when sensible people are saying it's not that odd ...

I just can't get it through my little mind I am too critical of politicians. Last time I needed notes was when I had to do a speech on bees while I learned everything I knew about bees a week ago, and never was going to use it again. I was 12.

Taxes, Budget cuts, Lift American Spirits, Energy. Yep, I still know them.

She's good-looking for her age, and she's a token minority (in politics). I seriously doubt that if Hillary Clinton hadn't gotten so far in the Dem primaries that she'd ever have mattered at all to anyone outside of Alaska. Look at us, we'll vote for a woman too! Think really hard for a second about OT posters that have supported her.

I think the biggest PR difference between them is that Bush understood "it is better to be silent and thought a fool".

To be fair, Ronald Reagan was president when I was born, Bush I and Clinton followed him, and GWB was president for eight years starting when I was 14. That is what I've learned to expect in my politicians.

I do think she's dumb. But having notes, no, having notes isn't a problem itself. Especially if you're the type that freezes up when Katie Couric grills you about the esoteric nuances of the Bush Doctrine. This woman should definitely have notes.

Here's my perspective.... I just got out of college and did a bunch of job interviews. If I pulled that on a basic question like 'Why do you want to work here?' I would have failed epically. And a political campaign (even though technically she isn't in one, but she's clearly at least angling to be a political celebrity) is basically a job interview of the candidate applying for a job. If you cannot remember your three main themes (which, again, unless you're a total phony should be ingrained into your being) how can I possibly give her the job?

Don't forget newspapers and magazines. God, those things are tricky.
