What is the point of bottled water? How the heck do you market it??

It seems silly to buy bottled water.

You can get water from home and take it with you if you really need to have just "Water".

The only time its not a waste of money is when your going to a country where you cant drink their water.

And i dont know how companies advertise one brand of water is better then the other brand.

You should always buy the cheapest water brand since it tastes the same anyway IF YOU have to buy it.

All you're actually paying for is the plastic container.

I'd rather agree with you.
Most of the people I know that buy bottled water, in France and in the States, is because they find tap water has a "bad taste".
Bottled water is pretty convenient on trips, though.

Marketing bottled water is extremely interesting because, as you said, there's not much to differenciate one water from another.
You can play the nature card, the health card, the fashion card...

In countries where tap water is not potable you have some interesting marketing: I remember one brand, "elektropure". I think the name would not work at all in the US or in Europe, because it sounds so artificial...

I don't see what the problem with bottled water is. Frankly, I think it's incredibly overpriced and I don't get why some of my family memebrs have to drink it instead of city water, so I just don't buy it.

I think you get the problem quite clearly. :goodjob:

A pitiful excuse. Let that same water warm up and it'll taste about the same.

There are huge margins for Coke (forgot their water product) and Pepsi (Aquafina) since they have to purify the water for the soda so it's already part of the process.

It's a convenient source of fresh, filtered water. I'm not going to carry around a big jug of filtered water, just in case I feel like some. It's available, and when I'm thirsty, sometimes I'll go with bottled water as opposed to pop, because it's healthier.. Plus it's refreshing.

And yes, I can actually taste a difference between Dasani and the other brands, so I do prefer that over the other stuff.

I have to say there's a really important distinction between bottled purified water (AKA tap water) and bottled mineral (natural, from a spring) water.

The first one is even more despicable than the second one.

So you dont plan ahead then? Why not take some water from home then if you know your going to be thirsty instead of wasting your money.

But if your concerned about taste why are you drinking water in the first place?

If you want something healthy and want to SPEND money on it why not spend it on juice or something that has taste and isnt free.

Are you kidding? Tap water is kind of yellow and has a rancid taste. I agree it's cheaper to buy a water filter than bottled water, though. That's what I use, a filter.

Juice isn't much better for you than soda. Most of it is sugar water. Beware of anything that says high fructose corn syrup as a main ingredient.

Well, yeah, I don't like it, but I don't get people who are up in arms about it's existence either, like some "green" folk I know.

Actually, environmentalists' concerns may be valid. After all, these companies are harvesting icebergs and collecting glacier runoff to package into mass-produced containers. All these processes require fuel!

Maybe he likes the taste of bottled water over tap water, you do have to drink water to survive. It's his money, he can do what he wants with it.

Yah so buy a filter. I dont know where you live though that has water thats unsuitable for drinking.

I thought tap water was regulated so it had to be safe for drinking?

Water has no taste. Unless its flavored water.

He would save time and money by buying a water filter.

(I know its his money but this IS a debate forum ;) )

Water does have a taste. There is certainly a difference between mineral infested city water and purified bottle water, or enriched bottled water. Even the different brands taste different.

Well pure water has no taste.

What you are tasting are the impurities not the water.

My point stands that a water filter would save money.
