What is your favourite scene in a Movie?

The paper bag scene from American Beauty. Really beautiful. Such a beautiful film too, one of the best. It's not in Youtube, although maybe that's all for the better, as you really need to see the entire film. It is probably my single favorite scene. Others:

Blade Runner; "Tears in Rain and She Won't Live." Really good stuff.

Then there's The Place Promised in our Early Days. Picking a favorite scene from that is nigh impossible, as the whole thing is a testament to humanity's beauty. From beginning to end it moves me, but the scene where they (you know who if you've seen it) "touch" in the empty classroom and Hiroki's Theme blares out is fantastic.

One that really sticks out to me is the scene in Jarhead where we see one of the soldiers had been cheated on via a VHS his cheating wife sent him. Oh man. So powerful it makes you feel sick for the guy. What an incredible acting job. Then Gyllenhall's response. So good.

5 Centimeters Per Second ending (don't watch this if you havent seen the movie):

So sad. ;_;

Everyone knows this one; Clockwork Orange, putting the droogs in place. A visual treat.

The really long take of the battle scene at the end of Children of Men. As a technical feat, it's as impressive as they come. It's just so gritty and good, and it goes forever without a cut.

Last scene of Gladiator. Kind of predictable but still very powerful.

Finally, pretty much anything in The Dark Knight involving the Joker (like the interrogation scene and the hospital scene), and the famous courtroom scene from A Few Good Men at the end:

Edit: Almost forgot, the end of American History X:

To embed a YouTube clip in BBCode, you use the tags [youtube]2aViAxK3SKU[/youtube]. None of that HTML stuff.

GEFM, you got to the American Beauty and Blade Runner scenes about 5 minutes before me... ;)

Just remembered another one... Deer Hunter, the Russian Roulette game in the Viet Cong camp. Probably the single strongest tension sequence out of any movies I've watched.

some rippers have been mentioned so far so maybe the best I can contribute is a few "honourable mentions".........

the 3 way shoot out from "the good , the bad and the ugly"

the "what`s wrong with the ending of empire strikes back" debate in "Clerks"

the haggling over the price of the fake beard in "The life of Brian" (also when Brian gets busted for Graffiti)

the opening in Evil Dead 2 with Bruce Campbell getting chased

Clarke and Rusty Griswald bonding over a cold one in "Vacation"

The final audition in "Breakdance"..........just kidding

I've always enjoyed the scene in Dr. Zhivago at the beginning, where they are talking about censorship and the inefficiencies of using people to move earth. I dunno why, I just really love Sir Alec Guinness. Also, the scene where Lara shoots Komarovsky at the party is pretty awesome. He's such a dog, Komarovsky, the kind of guy you love to hate.

Pretty much every scene in that movie is great, but I particularly like the train sequence. Especially the scene where Zhivago accidentally stumbles upon Strelnikov's railcar.

I have a lot so stand back!:

  • The "I am Your Father" Scene from Star Wars Episode V
  • The Trench Scene from Star Wars Episode IV
  • The Emporer's Death Scene from Star Wars Episode VI
  • The Duel Scene on Naboo between Darth Maul and Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi Wan Kenobi from Star Wars Episode I
  • The Scene from Star Wars Episode III where Anikan gets rebuilt
  • The Comb the Desert scene from Spaceballs
  • The Knights who say "Ni!" Scene from Monty Python and The Holy Grail
  • The Water Park Scene from Grown Ups
  • The Begining Scene from The Day The Earth Stood Still (the original version)
  • The Ruprickt Scene from Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
  • The Scene from Young Frankenstein where Fredrick meets Igor
  • The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man Scene from Ghostbusters
  • The Scene from Get Smart where Max and The Chief are Driving into a Golf Course
  • The Chase Scene from Bullit

MartinLuther, do you mean the 'walk this way' scene?

Yeah that one is pretty great too.

Come to think of it, my favorite scene in that movie should be the one where the deserters meet their replacements, fraternize with them, kill the officers, and continue with them back home.

My favourite movie, with one of it's best scene's:

"The Watch" scene from pulp fiction.

Embarrassing extra, when I was a DM I used this speech to give a amulet which could slow time (one extra turn) to a dwarf character.

The zero G fight scene in Inception was one of my favorite action scenes ever. For some reason, the scene where Ellen Paige's character stumbles into Cobb's memories really kinda freaked me out. As soon as his wife see's her all I could think was, "Oh hell oh hell oh hell".

As already mentioned, the bank heist in Heat, as well as the long single shot battle scene in Children of Men. The long scene at the Fish's hideout is exceptional as well.

There are others that are good, but I'm noticing that nobody has mentioned the evacuation of Dunkirk in, Atonement. Now THAT is a masterpiece of cinema.
