What to call a girl...

How about : "comrade?"

Simple sugar or babe will do.

Or you could go for humour as Franciso suggested, "Drugarice"

Comrade in english is:

"Kamerad" in German

"Tovarich" in Russian

and that's how far my knowledge of the word "comrade" goes.

As you local west country representative I say :goodjob:

An awful shock the first time any young lad finds himself in the West and a 45 year old barmaid says "What'll it be me lovvah?". "I'm sure I would have remembered that!" he thinks, "but then we were pretty far gone last night...".

It mostly is 45 year old woman who use the term as well!

babe, honey, sweetheat, baby, and her name

and any woman with a military rank yes ma'am :\

Back in my youth, I had a girlfriend who loved the pet name "sweetness". I thought it was a bit corny, but she liked it and I was happy to make her happy, so "sweetness" it was.

I do indeed agree that 'dude' is unisex.
 Do you not use dudette?

I tend to shy away from calling girls/women names like "doll," "babe," or anything like that. I will usually use a girl's name (and her full name, not shortened to Steph or Jess or whatever, even if she likes the short name better). Only with my best girl friends will I use words like "dude" and "man." Though "woman" tends to cover a broad spectrum, too, but as Curt said, you invite the hand-shaped mark on your cheek.

'Babe' 'M'am' 'Honey' 'Sweety' 'Darling' 'Sugar' or when all else fails, their actual name.
Good tactic. Come up with a pet name for your gal. That way, when you call her the wrong name, she will just think you came up with yet another cute nickname for her. :mischief:

Sitting on my boyfriends lap while reading these.... when he tried some of them out, he got slapped.

Either make up your own original name (I call someone caramel fudge for no particular reason), or keep to the name or some variation of it
