Are there any comparable terms that can be used when talking to a girl? Sista', and dudette jusat sound weird to me...:crazyeye:

Please help

Moderator Action: I'll be watching, so keep it clean.

'Babe' 'M'am' 'Honey' 'Sweety' 'Darling' 'Sugar' or when all else fails, their actual name.

Ma'am works great its my default word for any female of any age. If your on a really casual level babe is ok. I've also had good results with doll.

hey girl?

Seriously I think the best thing you can do is call her by her name. Girls love when someone calls their name (who doesn't). Otherwise use the neutral "you": "would you like to come with me?"

Use words like "chicks", "babes" with your male friends....

If its a girlfriend type of thingy then use anything Bozo said... its not like it matters really, its your passion that comes with it that counts.

@Mathilda how about some input? :)

It really depends. As Skadistic said, "ma'am" works universally. If I get a "darlin' " or "sweetie" from a waitress, I might get informal and reply with "hon" or something in return (it's a truckstop waitress lingo thing for those not from America).

I go with "princess." You may get looks though if used on complete strangers. Or "hey lady."

EDIT: I guess I've also addressed girls as generic terms like dude as well.

I personally prefer wench....nothing like bringing back a bit of medival spirit to keep the wenches in line eh?

'Pet' is appropriate in very narrow circumstances. In other situations, "ma'am" or "miss" is rarely wrong, and if you're actually hitting on a girl, I've heard that "milady" is just different enough to lend credence to your cause.

Ma'am/M'lady - If seeking to appeal to her classy side.

If she has no classy side, I tend to use the title 'woman', and then await the slap!

:)

I dunno, 'M'lady' is so corny, I wouldnt want to be around a woman who would fall for such utter tripe.

What about this:

"Hey, female member of the human race"

If she's older and you want to be respectful, then "Ma'am" works well.

If she's younger and you want to get on her good side, then her name usually works well. If you're close in a romantic way, then there are all sorts of nicknames you could use instead - pet, bear, sweetie, baby, etc....

I generally call girls by their names, unless I'm messing around, in which case I call them whatever fits into what I'm doing. (Yesterday at a party I was at, two girls are slapping each others backsides for no apparent reason - I called them members of a "wicked and perverse generation" and one of them a "debaucherous daughter of Satan". ;) They knew me, so they thought that was hilarious, as it was intended to be)

There's a girl I know that I love to annoy - call her C - that I call a whole host of names. Baby C (She signed my yearbook that way!), Woman, Little Woman, the Blond One, and so on. But that's just one aspect of my psychological campaign I'm warring against her. ;) She's just one of those people it's great to make fun of, in a friendly way. (And apparently she isn't too put off by all this, despite smacking me every now and then - she usually waves and gives me a hug when I leave ;) )

It really all depends on the circumstances. Is this a girl you're messing around with? Or a girl that you like? Or is it a woman you don't, and you want to be respectful with? When in doubt, just use her name.

What about this:

"Hey, female member of the human race"

And he will die as a lonely man. This might work if the girl has a good sense of humour

I just call everyone "jamppa", which is the Finnish equivalent to "dude" I guess. So I'd just call them dudes. But if I know the person's name I call her by her first name or by her nickname.

Sweetheart.

Our name always works well!

But I get called babe a lot by guy friends, sometimes chick.
I prefer babe :)

I call my gal friend by food names. Today she was "Blueberry Muffin". She prefers being called breakfast food tbh.
