What type of MP3 Player do you recommend?

Get a SanDisk Digital Audio player! (If you can find one). It's really simple, and works just like a flashdrive! Plus, if you're in a jam, you can use it as a temporary flashdrive. It's really easy for computer people, and you don't have to install a program to go with it like iTunes or any of that overcomplicated crap.

MP3 Players suck. Use CD's! Down with MP3 Players!

You were probably the last one to give up on 8-tracks weren't you? :p

Pretty much all portable digital audio flash players operate like that. ;)

I've been looking at two different flash mp3 players to get:

iAudio G3: 1GB player, fully featured, takes 1 AA battery. (For Canadians, ncix has iAudio players at good prices)

Samsung YP-Z5: 4GB player, fully featured, has an internal lithium-polymer battery.

They both support ogg vorbis, something that I demand from any audio player, and the G3 is about half the price. So I basically have a choice between more space, or the convenience of taking the batteries of my choice.
Could you have a more blatant rip-off of iPod?
But anyways, I would get an iPod, the internal battery isn't bad, depending on how you use it. I have the Video 30 GB model on flash, which is perfect for me. Plus, its the easiest to use mp3 player out there.

Name-wise, or product? Agreed on the name, but Apple doesn't have anything nearly as good as the actual G3. Nothing in the same range really, other than the ipod nano, which is bigger, more expensive, and was released after the G3. The ipod shuffle doesn't have nearly the same level of functionality as the G3.

edit: "Good" is relative, I'm not saying Apple's products are bad, but the G3 has features which nothing else does, which make it stand out to me.

I've been happy with the RIO brand of mp3 players. Only time I really use them is when I go running. I have one I bought in 1999 and it still works despite the fact I've dropped it quite a bit -- they are made mostly of plastic and can take a beating. Only reason I've bought newer ones is for the larger memory pool.

I can recommend the Creative Zen Sleek 20GB

it's got a Harddisk so using it while jogging, or doing other sports might not be ideal, but else it's great. Of course it's got a internal battery, so your number 3 isn't met :(

sysyphus: I was talking about internal battery as a bad thing because it costs a fortune to replace when depleted. Now I havent checked what is most economical to replace - aa/aaa or internal battery, but Apple charges a lot for replacing the battery of my ipod, should I so require...

I know there is another way to do that, which is certainly much cheaper....

Good point. I've been thinking about it, and I've discovered the merits of the changeable battery. Buying rechargables and having a small stock in my bag with the player means I'll never run out in an inconvenient place.

I'm very happy with my 30GB iPod video, but it probably doesn't meet your criteria. Out of interest, I did listen to a few different ones before buying it, and also read various comparative reviews, and the 5th gen iPod was clearly the best for what I wanted (though, to be fair, I'm pretty well off, so sound and usability were far bigger considerations than price).

Thanks for all the ideas fellas. My GF is kind of itching to buy a nano so I might buy her old 6GB iPod Mini off of her. My offer was $75 but I might have to increase that once she sees how much the Nanos cost. :D

Nanos are a rip-off. For a little bit more of $ you can get a decent 40Gb iPod on Ebay.Besides, their screen gets scratched very easily.

DON'T get an iPod

Having dealt with two different iPod products in teh past year, I have to say I'm a bit soured on them.

I don't like Apple's cult thingy anyway.

Id never buy a ipod- but then again id never buy a nokia, a ford, etc because i always want to find the product that is better- but isnt mainstream.

For me, a diddy lil 512MB usb stick with player and FM radio more than suffices.. uses AA batterys, and only cost me £12 :p yes, only 12 shiney pound coins.

I like the radio lots tho, so i hardly listen to the mp3 side of things.. also i only use it on my 5 min ride into, and 20 min ride out of uni :)
