What Video Games Have You Been Playing VI: Because There Are No Elections In Video Games

Edit: You're making me want to replay Fallout 3. :( It's the best one.

Ah, yes. Bryan, one of Fallout 3's noble examples of sweary children.

You thought F3 was better than FNV and F4?

Definitely. Fallout 4 shouldn't even be a Fallout game.

Don't get me wrong: when I could play it (it was playable at launch but the first patch tanked performance so heavily that I can't even launch the game now, even after several patches), it was a fun game. Very fun. Settlement building was cool. But it didn't feel like Fallout. The dialogue system is an insult. The 'improved' power armour is nonsensical. The gun crafting is pants-on-backwards stupid. But the gameplay for the most part is enjoyable. The quests, meanwhile, are pretty much filler. Many of them have potential to be memorable but end up being bland with cookie cutter ends.

New Vegas was a good game but it definitely suffers from the fact that the devs weren't allowed to flex their muscle. It is too incredibly easy to butcher the main story and to make things happen that you don't want to happen simply because you did something in the wrong order. Still, enjoyable. Quests are decent, characters are alright. World's a little too desolate for my tastes.

Fallout 3, though, engrosses you in the environment. The Capital Wasteland feels like a wasteland. Trenches full of super mutants bent on eating you, subways full of ghouls that scream in the shadows, a new threat around each corner in the overworld that are the result of decades of "it's either you or me" lifestyles. The different locations are endearing and consistent. You don't find places like Bigtown, the Republic of Dave, or Little Lamplight in NV or 4. The world feels crowded and alive, and the suspicion that comes with it follows you around.

DLC-wise, I think 3 and NV are mostly on-par in quality. 4's DLCs are on the same level as the Sims.

The main quest was pretty damn stupid, though. F4's was much better (and still managed to have several huge plot holes in it).

Project Purity, I thought, was good. The "scale" of it was a little disappointing. I chalk that up to Bethesda's engine limitations though, what with Whiterun being sieged by 12 Stormcloaks and all.

The premise behind it was something I felt was fitting for Fallout. You become a significant contributor to the Wasteland not being so terrible anymore (assuming you took the good guy path). It opens a door for a proper sequel where you can play another character 20-50 years down the line in a slightly less miserable Wasteland with new problems and potentially new ways to help repair the environment.

These statements are rather contradictory I'd say

X3... the game for masochists

It is a very german game and you know what the Germans are like
(german taste in games tend to be masochists)

Hmmm mediafile wont hotlink ?

The UI and controls were unusable, the tutorial was literally impossible, and the game ran at a slideshow. I don't trust X3 players.

I've been playing quite a bit of Crossout recently.

The game is ten years old. If you don't have a rig that can run ten year old games at better than "slideshow" there's really no help for it.

Trust me.

Well I originally tried it in 2012-3 IIRC but yeah, that hardware should have ran it at acceptable fps even if I had to minimize the graphics settings. It didn't.

X3 actually limits out on CPU, not GPU, so generally minimizing graphics settings won't help. Did you have a problem right out the gate, or deep into the game? I've run X3 on crap laptops and other systems that could hardly run anything else and been fine, as long as I didn't build huge fleets of script driven traders (numbers in the thousands) that all demand processing at the same time, or horrific giant complexes that can make the sector they are in totally 'off limits' as well as screwing up the game in general. (complex connectors are optimized so poorly as to qualify for 'reverse optimized' status)

i7-2460HQ and it was iirc like 13fps in the unplayable tutorial

I have to ask, which game exactly, and what "tutorial"? I don't recall any kind of tutorial, but it's been a long time since I played Reunion so I guess it might have had one...

I honestly don't know. Albion? Terra? one of the xpacs.

I've got Terran Conflict and Albion Prelude on my machine right now and don't see anything like a 'tutorial'...but I remember one too now that I've thought about it a bit...it must have been in Reunion. And the "main plot" in Reunion was a lot like a tutorial. The UI in Reunion is certainly something I could never go back to, which is why it isn't on my machine now, so I can't say for sure, but if that is what you hit this tutorial in I'd try an updated game like TC.

The tutorial is from X3 Reunion, If you choose the trader class you essentially have to trade your way into at least a Turret weapon to be able to complete the tutorial. Its a oversight by the devs

Its been a while and these screenshots from my previous play though
Set up my main base with mines, and my fleet of corvettes, taking on an xenon raid, one of the random events

Below is my capital ship in dock that as far as I got upto
I remember I staying in my Eciples corvette while remote piloting the capital ship, thats the problem with the main game. The larger the ships the slower they move around the universe, but the fastest ships are like toys compared with capital ships, Maybe Egosoft will come up with something in the next X game.
