What war(s) would you like to see?

All the East Asian, as well as Southeastern Asian countries embroiled in a Balkan-style genocide. (There are actually people who advocate for this on a hypernationalist context)

The Great Old Ones vs The Aesir

I've always wondered about that - why didn't the Swedes join up in the Crimean War and give the Ruskies six of the best, trousers down?

I know the public opinion was anti-Russian but I'm not sure why the government decided to stay neutral :( Sorry, I'm the wrong person Dach :(

And while we're at it - Sweden VS Norway :aargh:

But if I had to make a guess - pure speculation and I'm not a pro at this so don't quote me as a reliable source - then it was because of our new King, Jean-Baptist Bernadotte.

He was more neutral and was willing to accept the fact that Finland was a part of Russia in exchange for Russia pressurising Denmark into handing Norway over to Sweden.

So after trying to build up the trust with the former arch-enemy, Russia, for 4 decades I don't think they wanted to take chances.

Just what I think...

Karl XIV Johan wasn't the King of Sweden during the Crimean War, and I'm fairly certain that he didn't totally give up on Finland - I think he tried to float a war against Russia for Finland in the 1830s but was turned down by prospective allies.

This again is pure speculation - but maybe Sweden realised that opportunistically biting a big dangerous neighbour while its being dogpiled isnt a great idea because it wont always be being dogpiled and might bite back in future?

Best to bite it while it's being dogpiled, and take enough of a chunk out of it that it won't heal anytime soon. Meanwhile, start taking as many chunks out of as many different different enemies as you can get away with, until your too big to be bitten yourself.

I said they as in the rulers at that time.

It's funny, really. I don't know if there were any plans to "float a war" in the 30s, but I do know that Sweden was on Russia's side against the French in the 6th coalition.

Unless I am wrong of course.

No, you're right. Sweden saw which way the wind was blowing, and switched sides.

Sometimes that works - but its always very risky and with a country the size of Russia which is always going to have a fair bit of inherent strength its unadvisable. Hasn't stopped many from trying though, and ditto China.

It's dangerous, but I think it's better to kick them while they're down and risk the backlash than to never kick them and risk having them kick you at full strength later.

Neutrality during the Crimean wars being said, Sweden did, however, open up its harbours for the French and English.

The thing is, if you do kick them when they are down, they have a hell of a lot more reson to kick back when they aren't.

Intellecals VS. Stupid people.
