What's the intelligence level on the OT forum?

How smart are the people on this forum?

There's some smart people around but there are also some self-absorbed little weiners who love to post stuff like "well I got a 90000 on an IQ test but IQ tests dont mean anything" or "Well I took 23523 AP tests but those dont really measure anything". All in all we're definitely above average but we aren't NEARLY as high as our individual members tend to think they are.

Overall I think the fake intelligence and maturity that's touted around here sucks. That's why I've made it my personal goal to drastically lower the collective maturity level around here!

As much as I would like the ego boost of this forum being in the top 1% of the most intelligent people, I would be amazed if it was a significantly higher than average.

It's a rare day I see any maturity, fake or otherwise, here. :p

The last exam I took that compared me to the rest of my age group was the SAT a couple decades ago, and I was in the top couple percent of the scores. I've probably gotten a lot dumber and a lot more mature since then, but then again so has the rest of my age group. :p

I see the fake intelligence thing on a regular basis, but what in the world is fake maturity? Do we have posters smoking the pipe while reading Hemingway? How do you describe fake maturity?

Never try smoking the pipe, it is not cool nor mature.

Same with me.

The older I get the more I understand exactly how much I don't know.

The amount of information and knowledge in the world is truly staggering.

I think chucki said he had 90, that's no doubt due to his Aspergers, if you take out all the conditions that eliminate fair marking by an IQ test you probably have about 75% of the population.

IQ tests really test your ability to do IQ tests and not much else, and this becomes less and less accurate as you pass 12 yrs of age(where the sort of education you get gradually matters more, for example if you study the literature or maths inherent in western education, then your IQ test results should be a bit higher, where as if you live on the streets of Rangoon are pretty much unschooled but are literate they should be markedly worse) Woooh yes I have an arbitrarily large number and I'm an idiot, there you happy now fifty;) maturity level sliding to oblivion:D

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IQ

IQ tests are accurate within a small band of what they test for, but should not be used to measure intelligence generally. They are good for determining if you'll fair well in education or a particular job, but comparisons between different ethnic groups etc is fraught with unreliability.

Apparently those who are religous tend to fair less well than atheists/agnostics so I've heard but really don't quote me ;)

A more likely explanation is societal not your focus on a divine entity or lack of one.

EDIT: I looked at some of the bias as well apparently Jews and asians score higher, well who'da thunk :)

I voted average because a) I honestly don't know and b) I don't want to sound like a snob. :D I have a hard time doing math but I did have a hard time in middle school (crazy times) and only began to understand what an education really meant once I became a high school senior.

The only way that I can think of is to name names, which I of course cannot as per ze forum rules. It has something to do with someone acting mature not because that's how they really ARE, but because they think it makes them look sophisticated/intellectual. A good everyday example is young people that claim to love coffee... not because they actually love the taste of coffee, but because they think it is hip and adult to drink coffee and to pull ******** lines like "I can't start my day without my coffee".

That's why I claim to be a cutter, 'cause I'm soooo tormented

The amount of information and knowledge in the world is truly staggering

It's gotten to the point where studies are published faster than I can read them. It's awesome.

I'd say it's average, like most people, the people on this thread often consider a narrower view but we can make really smart arguments sometimes.

Really smart. Immaturity, fixed opinions, etc, are not unique to us.

Just being able to easily write a coherent, well punctuated and well capitalized paragraph puts people in the above average group.

Err? AFAIU, people with Asperger's tend to score higher on IQ tests.

Lower than Apolyton's.

Remember that thread a couple years ago about how CFC is so mature  Not unlike this one, really.
Years of Perfection will do that to a place.

But the good thing is that those people you speak of will try to be more careful when posting as they will not be satisfied when they post half-assed replies with bad spelling and grammar, because they will be afraid to look stupid. And therefore everybody is working harder on not being stupid, therefore, we notice more intelligent posts. :crazyeye:
