I've come along way in the past month, but recently trying for a cultural wins I've about had it with this game. What's the point in getting allies to "friendly" if on a whim they DOW on you?!? Same Civics, religion, and outta the blue, bam. (this time Alex) Further more, I find it difficult to get the AI to war citing"it's not worth it" in red. Any game requiring this much interaction and reading online to attain reasonable play, a game that states system specs and still glitches, sucks, to be frank. The only thing to do is war monger, or keep reloading saves. No thanks, Sid go stick it. Thanks to all for the info... nice community, but I'm done.

Random, the best way for us to help is for you to post a save.

Barring that, my guess is that you neglected your military to the point where your power rating made you an irresistible target. Alex is also a notorious backstabber, along with Monty, Shaka, Cathy, and a few others.

AIs act differently. For example, Stalin will always be wanting to DOW on you, Whereas Mansa Musa or Gandhi rarely do.

You just can't play the game properly.

Perhaps you could try to improve your diplo skills or debate on some specific problems instead of ranting and running away?

Oh well, do as you wish, it's your game

Sorry, this isn't the Firaxis complaint forums. Meanwhile, can I have your discs? My brother wants his own copy of the game so we can multiplayer.

Montezuma: "He has all those nice wonders, but I really, really like him..."
Brennus: "Have another stein of mead, then tell me what you think of him..."
Montezuma: "You're right, its just too good a plan to go to waste!"

The AI will attack you if you don't keep up a strong military no matter how much it likes you.

The mechanics of this have been iterated literally 1000s of times on these forums. Try doing a search for "peace probability".

Basically, an AI will never attack you at friendly, unless it made the decision to attack before hand, apart from some odd exceptions (AP, Cathy bribe). Half the AIs won't even decide to attack you at pleased.

All games of skill require time and dedication to attain a level of "reasonable play". You want to play well, but aren't willing to make the effort to learn.

Not really, I'm by no means a great player, but I can win comfortably on Prince without warmongering or reloading. I actually prefer to play a peaceful game (as my warmongering sucks!).

As mentioned already, Alex is a notorious backstabber.

Start a custom game and check the Always Peace option. If the AI still kills you, come back and write a longer, angrier rant.

thank you for the comments and stories. your diplomacy in the game might have improved if you worked on diplomacy outside of the game - which is to say a good diplomat would probably be reluctant to go to a foreign country and then state that the country's founder should stick it. Slightly better is going on fan forum board and writing about inabilities to manipulate/utilize a game mechanic and stating you are going to not play. I suggest Call to Duty where enemy attitude is always hostile so you don't have to fret about it.

I can assure you that the AI is far more trustworthy than any human player. But that doesn't mean you can let your guard down.

As mentioned above, there are a couple of reasons why an AI might attack you at Friendly. You don't need to know these, though.

What you do need is to look to your defence at all times, and realise that if you take risks with your security, sooner or later you're going to get punished. Until you have a comprehensive grip on the more subtle aspects of diplomacy, security means continually looking to build more units, and better units.

Further more, I find it difficult to get the AI to war citing"it's not worth it" in red.

That's very sensible of the AI. Would you allow yourself to be bribed into a war you didn't want?

It doesn't require those things, though it does reward them generously.

The most important thing is not knowledge learned on the forums, but experience gained in the game. Patience is the key - don't expect to run before you can walk.

We all have our moments like this, where an unforeseen (and, perhaps, wildly unlikely) event brings our carefully crafted plans to ruin. I know I've had plenty of them.

But, once the red mist clears (and it will), the trick is to learn from your suffering, saddle up once more, and wait for a chance to take revenge against the chisel-jawed bastard who stabbed you so cruelly in the back this time around. :backstab:

I say we start a witch hunt and burn the OP
