Save_Ferris, for the record, are you comfortable with the use of propaganda during a crisis?

Well, the government knows what's best for us, so I think people that worry about these sorts of things are just a bunch of cranks.

*Congratulations on your 32.000th post.

*Government knows nothing, institutions know nothing.

That defense bill is a giant walking joke that simply proves what hypocritical idiots the republicans are. Sure though, propaganda tends to work in uneducated countries so lets spend a few billion on trying to do it on the educated homefront.

I would think that during a crisis is precisely the time you do not want the Government to lie to you.

Anyways, the problem with the "well in a time of crisis the government should do whatever it needs to do" thinking is it breeds perpetual manufactured crisis. E.g. the War on Terror.

Ding, ding, ding!

We have a winner!

Hybris much?

State-sponsored information can be a very good thing to have an angle that does not depend on market economics. If this information is supposed to be and ensured to be critical of this very same state... If not, the only detectable use is to not have to bother with people who use their own brains.

Well it seems successfully manipulating the private media indirectly is not enough anymore.

Eh I think the educated vs uneducated comment stands as the normal targets for US propaganda are the US bullying victims who tend to be poor and weak. Although it would be a fair point to suggest propaganda doesnt work there either.
