Hey buddy ! :D I do not play First Person Shooters and I do not say "kurwa" in public all the time ! , You need to rethink "Your ?" theory ! :D

Geographically/linguistically part of Central Europe, as I'd group it with the other West Slavic nations. I'd definitely say the Czech Republic is in Central Europe, so Poland is too.

But in terms of the parts of Europe with which it has historically concerned itself, been allied too, and for the most part invaded by, it's more East European in historical terms.

So I'm gonna say South Pacific Island.

War-puss ! Warpus ! Behave ! You noughty ! noughty ! man ! "huj, kurwa. dupa, cipa etc. is not the language a Young man should say ! ^^ Say "I like the sunshine" instead ....

Construction of Zlota 44, Warsaw's latest marquee skyscraper, designed by Polish American architect Daniel Libeskind, is moving along very nicely:

It's almost done! There's another tall skyscraper being built downtown, and a couple other ones starting construction. You can see the other big one in about the middle of the image

Is it true that the Polish are building a lot of skyscrapers in downtown Warsaw to hide "Stalin's gift" (aka the Culture Palace) ?

We're building a lot of skyscrapers cause we love America and we want our cities to look like Manhattan :p A bit of truth in there, but we are skyscraper addicts, for some reason. Warsaw's real estate is pretty expensive, even by western European standards, but we're skyscrapin' the place up as much as we can.

As for the Palace of Culture and Science, everyone hates it, but it is such an iconic building in the city now.. We're not trying to hide it, really.. But it can't really be as prominent as it has been over the last couple decades, and that's slowly changing for the better.. But yeah, residents of Warsaw have a love/hate relationship with the building. Personally I don't really mind it, other than what it used to represent.

They are not dummy skyscrapers, but real ones which perform real functions that normally skyscrapers perform.

But they are not dummy skyscrapers, so I don't think that "how they look" is the most important of their functions.

BTW - Warpus, where are you from? Do you live in Warsaw (aka Warshavka :p) ???

Speak for yourself. I don't hate it. But I'm from Poznan, not from Warsaw. So I don't care.

We have our iconic buildings - among them the Renaissance Town Hall and the Stary Browar Center of Commerce and Art:

Is the Cultural Palace the really pretty one with the clock in the background?

The Palace of Culture and Science is only hated by those who live in Warsaw.

Other Poles don't care - because other Poles don't care about Warsaw. :p Especially those from Poznan and Krakow.

There are funny (but so true) jokes about people from Warsaw in the entire rest of Poland. ;)

Are You sure You are Polish ? All true Polish drink Voka hahhaha

I sometimes drink vodka as well. BTW all true Polish before 1939 drinked wine and beer, not vodka. :p

I'm Silesian, so i'll be happy with just a beer.

Good to hear that. Greater Poland, Lesser Poland and Silesia are the civilized regions of Poland.

Mazovia (which includes Warsaw) is almost in Asia for us here, from Poznan. :p Mazovia was always the most backward region of Poland.

Warsaw knows that Poznan and Krakow are better - that's why Warsaw build skyscrapers to cure their complexes. :groucho:

Such as scraping the sky.

Not the most important, but the look and feel of a skyscraper is very important. It needs to work with its surroundings in terms of style and what not.

Nah, I was born in Wroclaw, lived in Czestochowa, and since then I've defected to Canada.

BTW - warpus, how would your nick translate into Polish? I suppose it would be more or less like "wojenipka", right ???

Fajny facet ktory często konsumuje boczek

Heh heh, yes. Like I said, you either love it or hate it.. or you both love it and hate it.

It used to have the world's largest clock IIRC, until the Muslims built that giant thing @ Mecca.

It was given to Poland as a "gift" from Stalin as a show of Russian friendship or whatever. That's why most people hate it, I think. I just don't think it fits in very well with the surroundings, but.. it's like a hot girl with a slightly irregular face, really. It makes the skyline interesting, but could have been a lot nicer.

I can see how it would look strange it if were just all by itself (that's the reason I find the giant thing in Mecca really ugly, its so out of place). But with all these new skyscrapers building up around it, I find it really fits in.

Makes it feel like an American skyline, with the old skyscrapers rubbing up against the shiny new ones.
