Which Guns Do You Think Are Rad?

I won't be under fire with 2-3 times your range. But you'll be pinned.

Besides, the M-14 has a much longer range than the M-16.

No. I've got you by 100m effective range. Check wiki.

M16A2
Effective range 550 m (600 yd)

M14
Effective range 460 m (500 yd)

Both being extremely accurate, I'll say that an M14 (M1A) by its nature will always outdistance an M16. The M14 has a longer barrel and fires a more powerful cartridge. The 7.62 is heavier, will carry further, hit harder at long ranges, penetrate deeper and be less effected by wind. I don't care what Wikipedia says. 440 meters must be a joke. It really depends on the shooter.

That's an outright lie on wikipedia's part. An M-14 is effective at 800 -1000 yards with a scope.

Custom made (highly accurized) match grade M14s can do that. A standard GI factory M14 or civilian M1A with a scope mounted? I doubt it. But yeah the Wikipedia article is way off.

Irregardless 7.62x51mm performs much better at long ranges than the 5.56x45mm. The effectiveness of the 5.56x45 diminishes exponentially beyond a certain distance. The result is that an AR-15 is devastating under that certain distance but is rather lacking beyond it. A great gun for a long range paper punching but not so good against distant combat targets.

Spoiler :

Jesus Christ, is that a modern-day anti-tank rifle or something?

The M-21 was the sniper rifle variant of the M-14 IIRC, and it had an effective range of 750 yards.

Ecofarm and Cheezy, the M14 v M16 debate is as old as the M16 itself. But you have to agree it's a pointless argument when faced with the Mosin-Nagant. Designed over a 100 years ago, uses 7.62x54 that was old at the time, and completely obsolescent now, 5 round magazine, stiff bolt action, and a nearly impossible to use safety.

Did I mention Simo Hayha used a Finnish made version of this to get over 500 confirmed kills of Russians in 100 days during the Winter War? In -40C weather? With iron sights? Estimates are closer to 800 including unconfirmed, plus another 200 with a submachine gun. Standard effective range of 400 meters, extended to 800 with the sniper version, and still lethal out to 3km. More muzzle energy than the M14, and over twice that of the M16. There's 10's of millions of these things still out there, you can get one for under $100, and the ammo probably has the cheapest price/power ratio of anything.

Or if you want closer range "guns", check out the WASP Injection Knife. It's called a knife, but it's got a CO2 cartridge channeled to the tip. Poke it in something, pull the trigger, and you create a pocket of air the size of a basketball. Designed to bring down a grizzly or shark instantly in self defense. How long until California bans this thing?
