Which television shows are you watching? Part III

Yeah, sure, the Beeb's output is 100% crap, 100% of the time

That's presumably why it doesn't get exported (and translated) by TV stations across pretty much the whole world — unlike wonderful greek TV drama. Oh, wait...

Here's a thought: maybe try actually experiencing something, before dismissing it out of hand?

I have. For years I lived in that land. Although back then tv was worse.
Also, not sure how greek tv is a yardstick for anything - what's next, [insert your native land] tv? :p

I saw the first episode of the new TV adaptation of The Name of the Rose. It's a bit heavy-going and people have a tendency to mumble, which is not helpful when they also have thick accents.

How hard is it to find actors who can enunciate clearly? [pissed]

That may be partially a function of getting older, but the brain really is an amazing organ, in that it can help you interpret things you don't quite hear or see if it has a good idea of what to expect. Unfamiliar accents can really throw that off.

I didn't see it. Some of the main characters seemed a bit miscast - eg Turturro.

If you didn't see it, why do you think they were miscast?

The one with Sean Connery? I recall seeing bits of that years ago.

The Mandalorian. This show's awesome. OG aliens, awesome soundtrack, great visuals. It's superb.
I think I mentioned it elsewhere, but they've been releasing Ludwig Göransson's soundtracks to every episode after they air if you're interested in picking them up. I bought all four that have been released thus far, but I kind of feel like this is the weakest aspect of the show. Parts of it I really enjoy, particularly the Mando's theme that pops up here and there, but overall it doesn't feel very Star Warsy to me. Maybe that's a good thing, idk...

I gave Explained by Netflix a shot and I enjoyed the science-y episodes. It's pop science and history and fairly shallow at that but they do a decent job of simplifying and explaining key concepts.

The show's credibility went in the tank when they had Glenn Beck as one of the main talking heads during the Political Correctness episode. He wasn't really saying anything controversial here but I still take it as either a failure of judgement by the producers or an attempt to be needlessly provocative. On either account, it didn't work and the episode was hot psuedoscience garbage.

The technical episodes are ok to good but the social episodes are pretty bad. I watched a couple of them (not just the PC one) and they were all like that.

I remember His speech in KOTOR when he described descending on a planet in on of those Mandalorian Assault ships ! Man ! It was awesome !!!!

Mandalore .... a wound in the Force ! ..... "Kreia"

I may have to check this out then. I've met and spoken with Glenn Beck a couple times and I've found him very thoughtful & knowledgeable. I also listen to some of his radio show a couple times a week.

Malachor Five ! =)

Maybe he's calmed down after leading the Birther charge against Obama for so long.

You are the Hero on this ! Do not fail me down kid ! ;)

! ! ! ! ^^

W. A . S .P -- Just how I feel abo fudging authorities !!

First Crisis on Infinite Earths episode was boring, generic filler. I can't believe I embarked on a multi-month catch-up binge on all the CW shows for this.

Oh well, sunk cost. Hopefully the next two episodes are better. And then I guess I can twiddle my thumbs for a month because CW thinks having a month-long break in the middle of a major retcon arc is a good idea.

Stumptown had the best 'Fall finale' cliffhanger so far. I think this might be my favorite new show of the Fall.
The Rookie's Fall finale didn't quite pack the same punch. It was a little over the top, and I thought they chose the wrong character.
Halt and Catch Fire season 1 rewatch. I miss these guys. One of my all-time favorite shows.
I liked Crisis on Infinite Earths, Part 1 more than Synsensa did, but I agree that the month-long break is kind of a slap.

The Rookie Fall finale spoiler:
Spoiler :
It shouldn't have been Chen who got kidnapped. It should have been Det. Armstrong. He's someone who's part of Rosalind's story, while Chen is just kind of a rando cop, as far as the two killers are concerned. I can't quite tell what the relationship is between Rosalind and the Mystery Man. If he's a fan of hers, it'd make sense for him to go after Nick (he could also pick the D.A., but the viewers have no attachment to him, so Nick would be the choice); and if he's a competitor or a rival, or they have some beef with each other, he might go after Nolan (if they really wanted to twist the knife in the viewers' guts, Mystery Man would go after Nolan's son and/or future daughter-in-law - but maybe that's too grim for a "PG-13" show like this). Because Nick is more of a supporting character, it'd be more plausible that he could be killed. I just don't buy that Chen is in genuine mortal jeopardy, because she's too central a character. That said, I guess crazier things have happened.
