Which television shows are you watching? Part III

Oh man, I fell behind on the CW DCverse a couple years ago. Let me know how Crisis pans out before I try and catch up. I kept up with Flash, Arrow, Legends and Supergirl until 2017 but fell behind and gave up.

I caught up on Vikings. Its...meh. the kid that plays Ivar is pretty good but the other sons are kind of...whatever. Alfred is totally uninteresting and once Echbert dies the really good characters are gone. Bjorn does have a few cool episodes but I dont know. Once the series stops following Ragnar, Lagertha and Rollo it loses its shine.

Started watching Castle Rock. 1st season has a cool mystery to it. I'm a couple episodes into season 2 and Annie Wilkes' origin story is kind of neat. I guess the ads led me to believe it was an interweaving of Stephen King stories but that doesn't seem to be so. The writing is good but I think I was set up for disappointment thinking itd tie multiple stories together. It doesn't, at least so far anyway.

Season 3 of Mrs. Maisel was another winner. It is all old school 50s stuff with wonderful costumes and characters. Great humor, very Jewish, and lots of music that predates most of us. :)

Been watching the Mandalorian on Disney + while I basically afk train tedious skills in RuneScape that don’t require you to even look at the game or even do anything after a minute or two has passed. I wanted something that will make the time passing less insufferable, and this is doing a good job.

spoilers about the show

Spoiler :
For the most part I’ve really liked it, but I feel they tried too hard in making the Mandolrian/Protagonist “imperfect/limited/vulnerable. He couldn’t destroy an AT-ST without a lot of help, whereas Luke Skywalker pretty much single handedly destroyed an AT-AT (even much more of a formidable opponent) in the empire strikes back. In return of the Jedi , Chewbacca takes control of an enemy AT-ST pretty easily. Is this badass, Mandolrian hunter who has dedicated his life only one thing far less competent than a Wookiee? I get the “we don’t want him to easily destroy everything because then it be a repetitive and predictable show” but in that case you should make his opponents that much more formidable so it doesn’t contradict the Universe that George Lucas laid out in the original trilogy. The show is very well done though, I have been absolutely enjoying for the most part. But my single criticism is what I just said. Also: I don’t know how much I’m digging baby yoda.

The Mandalorian is pretty weak, I agree. It seems his winning virtues are perseverance and luck. He isn't great at combat or even at tactics. He has a Forrest Gump-esque vibe to him where he focuses on an objective and somehow manages to complete it despite not being suited whatsoever for it and putting no advance thought into it. Which is fine, I guess, although I'd like to see him become more... well... Mandalorian as the show goes on. We've seen other Mandos who are mandated to remain hidden who are far more talented at combat than he is.

That being said, he's young, part of the new, limited generation, and only just got his armour (while the rest of the clan were fully armoured and even had rocket-packs). I don't think he's supposed to be formidable.

Even if he were competent, though, he'd be less skilled than Chewbacca. Chewie has like 250 years on him and was part of the Clone Wars.

The Mandalrian is supposed to be very intelligent, and he’s armed with far more than a bow caster. He should have no problem single handedly taking down an AT-ST. Yes Chewbacca could have more experience, but I think the Mandalorian should already be starting from a higher simply because he’s more intelligent than Chewbacca (at least he should be) but secondly, and more importantly, he has vastly superior gear to work with. Chewbacca is physically stronger but his advantage should end there. Chewbacca, as portrayed in the original trilogy, did not come across as particularly intelligent or even rational.

Watchmen is incredible, can't wait for the season finale.

Also excited to make my way through season 4 of The Expanse.

Finished Mr Iglesias (which really grew on me), Luther S1 (went straight on to S2), and Black Lagoon S2. Also now nearly finished Avatar:TLA S1.

Still only about halfway through Iron Fist S1 (though I agree with @EgonSpengler that it's not nearly as compelling as Daredevil, Jessica Jones or even Luke Cage) and iZombie S2 (which I'm watching for the character interaction more than anything).

You don't have to bother with the last two though. Hopefully the TV series will never get to those.

Saw the first episode of the new season of expanse, and very pleased they didn't skip the new earth story line. I wonder if this will fill the entire season.

I've been reading a lot of complaints about The Mandalorian. No idea why. It's fantastic, and the last episode was no exception. Although I found out there's only two episodes left. :(

Caught up on all the Crisis on Infinite Earths episodes. Gotta tell ya... this has not been worth it at all. I am so disappointed.

I went on a mad iZombie binge and watched the whole thing except the final season in about two weeks, then waited for the final season to make it to Netflix and binged that in about a week. I really like iZombie, obviously.

Really? I haven't seen many criticisms at all. A few nit picks here and there, but overall the fan base seems to enjoy it tremendously. Personally, I had some issues with Episode 5 - The Gunslinger, but nothing major. I also haven't been too jazzed with the acting of a few of the secondary characters - lookin' at you Toro Calican, the off-brand Han Solo. :trouble:

Mostly on Reddit about how the show's about nothing, about how it's generic, about how Jon Favreau is bad at media, actually. I don't really get it.
