The person at my work who uses Windows 7 can't say enough good things about it, and it seems fine the little I have used it.

Didn't notice we talked about 6GB ram.
I've always heard that 64 bit windows(xp and probably vista) had really bad driver support. Personally I have 8 GB ram, and dual boot linux and 32 bit xp (too bad my windows can only use around 3.2 GB of that ram).

There's essentially no difference in driver support between Vista 32-bit and 64-bit.

For Microsoft to certify hardware for Vista, the manufacturer must provide both 32-bit and 64-bit drivers.

XP 64-bit, on the other hand, is just awful, I used it for about 6 months before Vista RTM'd, and I'm sure I wasted far more time trying to make stuff work than I saved with the extra memory.

Well for the right OS to play current high graphic games, I say Vista 64 is mandatory. Especially Grand Theft Auto 4 that I play on a regular day basis.

I see a lot of posters in the GTA forum saying they are satisfied with their XP-64.

I see. I couldn't remember hearing anything bad about vista64, but since xp was so bad I thought Vista was the same.

edit: But I still don't think I want to spend a lot of money to buy Vista. Looking at one of the biggest internet computer stores in Norway, vista premium costs 350 usd(converted from nok, and I borrowed my current xp from a friend so I can't upgrade). You can get very, very decent cpu for the same price.

This is like asking which is the best seat on the titanic. :p

I guess if I had to choose I'd take windows 7 since then I could at least be on the cutting edge of windows(haven't actually used it yet).

They're all pretty good as long as you have a computer system that can run all of them which means a Windows 7 capable machine.

Depends on what you want to do. Since I build computers with my gaming hobby in mind, I usually go with XP for the simple reason XP generally gets slightly better framerates than Vista does due to driver support. But it stands to reason that Vista would be better than XP in more than a few areas as well.

The other consideration for me is I know how to find and do things in XP....and I havent spent enough time to do that in Vista, so whenever I have to help my wife or kids with a computer issue Vista frustrates me. Heh.

Vista is fine, Windows 7 is too buggy for my taste. I'd like to see the bugs ironed out in an OS so that it does not interfear with my gaming.

I've heard only bad things about 64 bit XP.

And Windows 7 is still not officially released, which means Microsoft is not willing to claim the quality of a finished product. Even when it does come out, there will still be a period of working out the major problems in the first few updates. Pre-releasing may have helped, but likely there will still be problems as always.

That leaves Vista.

You're doing something wrong. XP, Vista and 7 all run fine for me a month at a time without any crashes, I only reboot for patch Tuesday.

It crashes my gaming to a clean desktop.

Nothing wrong with any of my games. I don't have any viruses or such. That leaves the OS :undecide:

I'm not a fan of windows, but I dislike Macs more. From what I hear, Linux is probably more my style. I've never tried it, or Vista though.

It's just about half that here. 199 CAD (1,317 of your silly Norwegian monies) + tax (13%).

Should you ever want it, I'd be happy to buy it and mail it nondescript for you ^^

I heard rumours of an 'XP - box' that was supposed to be supplied in 7 so you could still run your old games, while allowing MS to be more flexible in their OS architecture.

Does anyone know anything about this?

If you install 7 64 bit, to enable greater memory access, do you have to get 64 bit copies of all the other software, like Office, etc?

Vista killed my life.Never used 7.XP rocks.Still vista user:(
