While We Wait: Boredom Strikes Back

Nutra's right, screw this, I'm going to do some drugs or something.

Anyway, I'm already on this whole "Defenders of the Suck" trip. That's awesome. It sounds like a Dave Barry band name.

So metal. And like, it has a gothy element to it, but at the same time it is so raw and antagonistic that I am into it. I don't care if their music is, like, Dream Theater bad.

Not necessarily. You can have a defined palette and articulate your points without being part of the profession. That's why there are things like food critics. Or critics of any stripe, for that matter.

The slogans "If you don't like it, do it better" and "If you don't like it, don't read/see/do it" are the last resort of fanboys and defenders of suck, because they have no valid points left to articulate.

Technically false, as a critic is usually well trained in the culinary arts, just as a chef is, making them part of the profession. Other critics are often times failed journalists with a bad attitude though.

I agree with nutra's assessment, but believe that if you follow his advice, it might backfire. You might just continue to enhance your abilities to: 1. Write in a clever Internet forum tone, 2. Drink soda while you do so, and 3. Make a clique out of what would otherwise be a very open-minded, friendly, and tolerant virtual location to engage in a sincere, communal pastime.

All you guys need to do more drugs and listen to more Brian Eno :~I

I like the Brian Eno part! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7iAjeJ2DKI&feature=related

I agree that being negative serves little purpose. But nor does making excuses for our collective apathy, or the actions of the sociopaths who have accumulated most of the wealth and power. We do live in an age of astonishing wastage IMO.

I don't think we've begun to see what our species is really capable of. I think the biggest changes in future will be in our psychology and social structures.

I think criticism is useful; it's just a matter of knowing how and whether to heed it in any given situation. No need to be negative about it, either. :p

Let's not kid ourselves, all B.No is amazing.

Drugs are the opiates of the masses, don't use them!

If its good enough for the masses..

I think we can all agree that Brian Eno is awesome. Didn't he do the ambient soundtrack for Spore as well?

They're not really even jokes. Not even the people who'd been the biggest fanboys of pre-release Spore, such as myself, will rise to a jab at the game at this point. :(

It wasn't as good as it could have been, and was simplified to the point where it lacked any real depth and replayability. I made myself like it at first, after having salivated over it for 3 years, but in hindsight, I know it wasn't that great a game. However, it's fantastic as a creativity engine, a very simple program for creating all sorts of creatures. I'm not sure if I'd recommend getting it, it really depends on the kind of games you like playing.
