While We Wait: Boredom Strikes Back

I played an instrument and at one point in time could speak three languages, but to the original point of this post:

In previous WWW threads the discussion last page could have easily degraded into something less than civil, but well, didn't. There no doubt (in my mind anyways) that it's gotten better, not to say it's great, but then again nothing is perfect.:)

"I play three instruments and speak four languages. What is it that you do?"

I believe that by that point such a response was only fair play (unless we have very, very different opinions on what is designed to provoke, offend or deride), as you said, learn to context. Also, three, although I am interested in learning German in the future. I'm not particularly interested in resurrecting that argument, so I'm not going to quote any of your posts. Necromancy is the darkest of the evil magics...

We just don't like our newer members getting uppity. We're all smart people here, and most of us are in college, so we don't like to be condescended to.

Sure. Most of my posts in regards to your contending of my argument were of the intention of lamenting the fact that my point wasn't carrying. To address one of your comments regarding it, if I recall correctly someone made a remark regarding the Caucasus region, to which my argument adapted and did so poorly, which led to some confusion on my part.

That's not really the point.

The point is, if you act in a certain way, people will find you annoying, and no amount of backtracking can erase that. You just mature, learn more about history, get more serious with your NESes, and hope that the in-crowd thinks you're cool.

Sorry if that sounds harsh or caustic, but that's how it works.

We have an in-crowd? Why wasn't I told anything about this?!

Also, if you must know, Krazypoo, I speak English, French in the sense that I took four years of French in high school and supposedly am good at it, and Mandarin Chinese in the sense that I can mumble words occasionally. I also play the piano, the guitar, and sometimes I deign to sing, which is powerful enough to shatter glass and deafen audiences.

He was quoting a statement I made in repartee to an argument which occurred around the time the current WWW was first posted.

I'm sure your singing is most deafening and glass-shattering. What kind of music do you sing?

It was a self-deprecating joke about how I wasn't in the in-crowd. :p

I sing sometimes, to go along with my guitar playing. I don't have any training and I can't carry a tune in a bucket. :p

Oh, I also played trumpet in my youth.

I play the air guitar. Pretty wickedly if I may say so.

Your argument was ******** to begin with. You then enhanced it by making remarks that would have made a neo-Nazi proud. Then to make the torrid episode more amusing you continued to defend it against all comers. So what was really at stake was whether I was going to let an argument best made on Stormfront go by. Then there was the whole Euro-centrism debate where you tried to change the definition of a word to suit your own purposes. It didn't matter that it already had a universally accepted academic definition. That didn't suit your pretensions to Stormfront membership or something.

You know Tibet is a pretty awesome country if you think about it. But I've seen several maps which show Tibet owning Bengal at some point in the 700's and I haven't seen anything to indicate that actually happened, what exactly is that being based on? Most curious indeed.

For some reason, nesing amongst all cfc fora, breeds a greater set of elitism than elsewhere. I suppose it is the whole thing being a competitive game to begin with. I am glad most can seperate ooc an ic, at least for gaming purposes.

Shouldn't have posted, I almost descended to rudeness. I'll go spend a few years in the desert to undo what I almost did.
EDIT AGAIN: I agree with Karalysia. Tibetan ownership of Bengal is a fascinating subject, and most would have thought that the tribes in Bengal would have fought off Tibetan rule more fervently, though their regard for authority was probably little enough that a change in leadership meant very little to the individual.
