Way to miss my point. There is no pioneer of a genre. Oh, oh, Dune II, first popular RTS. Yeah, it was based on Herzog Zwei, first real RTS. That was just the strategy of Herzog with some arcade-y Thunder Force bits thrown in. The innovation is evolutionary, not revolutionary. Synergy and refinement, not development from-the-blue. That type of progress is very atypical.I'll have to say, although none of them were pioneers of the genres, (That goes to the first well executed games of the genre) they innovated gaming in ways which weren't seen before.
Point of all this being, criticizing something because it doesn't totally change the world (or the genre) is fairly silly because almost nothing does. We still use the same types of stories as the Greeks did 2500 years ago. I don't hear anyone saying Pulp Fiction sucks because it's the same thing just told in a disjointed fashion. Ad nauseam.
