While We Wait: Part 5

EDIT- I'm not arguing with a dumb partisan hack. John McCain was the reason there was any oversight in that bill. Democrats would have pushed it through without oversight, were it not for him.

Because it's heinous.

I stand by these highly intelligent, witty, and thoroughly noteworthy comments, although I must say I was greatly impressed by both speeches. I remain too cynical to be carried away with all the enthusiasm, but hope to be able to enjoy the historicalness of it in retrospect. Aye.

Ja vi kan!

Or as they say in Sweden, 우리들은 할 수 있어요!

How in the world have you come around learning Swedish?

You should learn Danish, or Norwegian instead. Much better literature.

That's the inbuilt Danish dislike of Swedes talking there.

On the seventh day god got drunk, and created Sweden.

Yeah we hate Sweden very much...

Spoiler :
(Actually, we are fine friends of Sweden as of now [you know that], but seriously, they have not done any good literature, at any point. The only one who has done something above average is that modern dude who wrote the Knight Templar or whatever it's called in English. I guess you don't know it still. Norway had Holberg while Denmark had Kierkegaard fx. Sweden hasn't had anything good for the sake of art. What they did succeed in was a number of scientific discoveries (Fx the man who invented the categorization system in the late 1700s was Swedish), but that can be read in English for the same amount of enjoyment, and Denmark had Ole Rømer, Niels Borh and Hans Christian Ørsted to mention a few if you really directly have to read science in its original language.

Ancient Denmark vs. Sweden warfare is now done through soccer, actually, but I don't know anything else.)

For the record I think America made the right choice today in giving the Presidency to the person who had the best OVERALL plan for change in a society that desperatley needs and requires it.

Arn [Which I think is the Knight Templar's series] was done by a Swede wasn't it... wasn't all that great of a film I am told the books are better.

The Swedes had Ingmar Bergman. They need no other artistic achievements. :p

...but seriously, look at the reign of, for one, Queen Kristina, who was way into patronage and even hired Descartes as her tutor, or look at the Gustavian Absolutism, which was also a not-half-bad enlightened despotism that featured some pretty impressive literary achievements. Too, Berzelius and Arrhenius were Swedish, and no chem or bio student forgets them.

And we won't know exactly what his real changes will be until next year. I highly doubt he will give anything he has promised. Just word of his election made stocks drop.

You have no idea what america needs and requires. Leave your record for your own damn politics.

lol whut

If I'm a "dumb partisan hack" (nice flaming, by the way; reported--since you seem to enjoy doing that to others), I will at least pride myself on literacy.

But whatever, Amon. Enjoy your candyland vision of the world where the Republicans haven't done more to boost the size of government and increase its power than anybody since FDR. Everybody's a "socialist" in American government these days. The rest of us can celebrate while you mope.

The media's not biased, is it? I watched it in real time, and the democrats had no problem with "Bush's bailout plan". The only guys who did was Republicans.

Ah, so your memory's just faulty then. See, Bush sent a proposal to the Hill. It got burned by everybody, because it suggested the following:

Decisions by the Secretary pursuant to the authority of this Act are non-reviewable and committed to agency discretion, and may not be reviewed by any court of law or any administrative agency.
Which is a ludicrous and totalitarian move that should rightly have never been supported by anybody. This is the Bush-Paulson Bailout. The Democrats tinkered with the bailout for a few days, and then it got shot down by the Republicans. That could be called the Democratic Bailout. This is what you happen to remember. Then they tried again, a third time (we'll call that the Bipartisan Bailout), and it got passed.

You apparently don't remember the first bit, which is what I was referencing--ie: that Bush de facto wanted a command-economy type decision with zero oversight and zero accountability to anybody. So, if Obama's a socialist, I guess Bush is a Stalinist in comparison (yet you want four more years of the latter instead) and if I'm a dumb partisan hack, you're totally ignorant of national events. 'Grats. Want to show it off some more?

I remember the whole eppisode clearly, Symphony.

When you said "I'd rather have a Socialist than the Bolshevik in there now who wanted us to hand $700 billion to a guy who would've had no oversight." you made it seem as if Bush was running for a third term, which is faulty, especially on this particular premise. The democrats were just as willing to pass a bill without any oversight, so long as they got their pieces of the pie, and it would have got passed through were it not for John McCain getting republicans involved in the negotiations. THEN we seen oversight creep it's way into the bill.
