While We Wait: Part 5

.....That sounds slightly familiar...
Uh, the Belgians in that particular situation had Germans to back them up, and their government was having major issues. Besides, you were outnumbered by their German allies anyway. Frankly I consider the performance of France in that particular conflict to be more than reasonable given the numbers. In the case to which I was referring the odds were 16:5 against the Belgians.

Anyways, who has bets on the vice-preses?
Before I went to Louisiana, I'd have thought that Jindal would make a dandy candidate for the Republican VP, but apparently he did a little bit of political maneuvering and was forced to go back on a previous promise because said promise was violently opposed by the Louisiana public. So he might be out. :p

Don't knock Belgium. I was even laughing at that to be honest.

wow. I'm sad. What happened when they used to at least pretend to discuss issues...wait I wasn't alive then.

Sparta invaded Athens?
Technically, Sparta never invaded Athens itself; they invaded Attica, sure enough, but not Athens. The Long Walls made sure of that. :p Ah, good were the days when could be had a good day of debating on the Pnyx.

Ok guys, going on a tangent here:

Imo, Charles Li is a umm... I can't think of a good word/expression but a full-fledged member of our NESing society. He (no longer) is a spammy person that sometimes shouldn't be taken seriously, even though other people would.

Note: I am very sleep-deprived, I think. I can't even tell anymore. I think that means that I am sleep-deprived. Basically, I have little to no self-control. Depending on exactly how sleep-deprived I am right now, this might or might not be edited out by tomorrow morning. Why did I put this note here? I'm going to keep typing and won't be able to stop... damn it... woah the Czech have a big Olympic team. Damn it again.

Not sure if I can agree with that, sadly. A lot of his posts would still indicate otherwise.

Still, great improvement has been made.

Charles Li: metaphor for Iraq?

Huh. You read into my comment that the United States has more commitments abroad than the UK, that I believe that the UK is 'letting down the US'. That's not at all what I think; regardless of my position on Iraq, Afghanistan, or anything in between, the US commits more troops and material and cash than the UK mostly because it's bigger. For me to suggest that the UK, where (if I'm not mistaken) it is easier to block increased troop commitments, and where the troop numbers to commit are smaller in the beginning anyway, should send as much as the US, would be a statement of gross idiocy on my part and I'm mildly offended that you took that statement as such.

Or not. :p I know that despite a higher amount of dissension both within the government and without, the UK is contributing a large amount of men and material to the conflicts it's in, commitments that are wildly incommensurate with any sort of motivation to do so. I wouldn't denigrate any efforts myself (again, regardless of my positions on the conflicts themselves, which are neither here nor there), although of course I can't speak for the American Fourth Estate.

It seems I misunderstood. I also find it interesting that I took offence from what I originally perceived - I don't consider myself patriotic in any way, I see lots of problems with this country (the UK). I don't even take an interest in football/soccer (except for the world cup etc). I really don't want to present myself as some kind of anglophile. I guess, whatever I perceived from your comments, touched upon some kind of tribal instinct....

Which brings me to another belief of mine, that human beings are not really sentient... Sure, certain brain functions have worked out very well, but humans are still rooted in primate tribal instincts and social manoeuvring. Humans are not capable of seeing the 'big picture', or working cooperatively on a complex level. Consider what could be done with the technology, resources and manpower already available. At this point, its all a matter of organisation and psychology.

I don't believe the human race will ever establish itself beyond this planet. It must evolve into something else, or be content with what it is, or else die out...

This is quite possibly the best segue ever. :hatsoff:

im hoping that this is the thread for this

are there any 19th century- 17th century NESes currently running? I've only found one so far, which seems to be inactive.

I would prefer to see a NES around the time of French rise to power, rather than decline.

There's ABNW. A few NESes in that particular era are in development right now and soon to open. We can respond to market forces, just not instantaneously. :)

In other news, I just read that the Don Cossack Host is sending volunteers to fight in the South Ossetian war. That's one of the most hilarious things I've ever seen. This is officially the best war ever. :p

Awesome! Cossack's that's sure to piss of the Georgians... most silly conflict this century so far... the Russians just appear to be doing it to spite the Georgians, and the Georgians are just doing it back to spite the Russians…

What does the word segue mean???

I already had to look up incommensurate and denigrate to make sure I had the right idea. Dude, this is supposed to be my native language

Thanks for pushing my linguistic knowledge anyways :D

edit:

This is officially the best war ever. :p

I understand that war is considerably less fun when applied to the real world!
