Meh. The Second Punic War is basically classical history's version of the Second World War; anything that can possibly be said about it has already been said.Re-reading Polybius; Hannibal was a boss.

If my players dedicate a story arc, I will allow them a general worthy of Hannibal.
The only guy who was close was Tycho; if it wasn't for the fact that a) he had no supplies or b) he got assassinated, he could have done great things that turn.
Hannibal was all right, but I've never particularly been interested in either one of the cults of personality around him (hate him or love him). He was kinda just...there.Yep, pretty much. I would never dare analyze the war beyond pointing to it and saying "Scary crap happened during this era, from a Roman perspective." I'm using the wealth of Classicists faffing about to support my argument that Plautus' slaves are partially born out a Roman need to pat themselves on their backs and remind themselves that everything is o.k..
Also doesn't stop Hannibal from being cool, if woefully naive in his estimations about how many Roman allies he could turn against Rome.
Oh right he did.
Let me look at my notes... yep. He organized the regroup and the retreat. I didn't say if he went north or south after that, though.

Then again, I'm convinced that Roman history didn't get interesting until the WRE was about to die, so...yeah.
